I have FarCry and was thinking about a new game. I heard BF2 is great, anything else?

Thanks

scorched earth, best PC game ever
Link Posted: 1/14/2006 1:43:40 PM EDT
Depends what genres you like.

For flight simulation: the Il-2 Sturmovik series are probably the best.

First person shooters: Call of Duty 2, BF2 is good (but unrealistic), Doom 3, Operation Flashpoint

Strategy, etc: I've found the Sims 2 to be extremely addicting. Black & White 2, Civilization IV

Without a doubt, Half-Life 2 is THE best FPS out there, as of this day.

Garry's Mod for Half-Life 2.

There is no competition. Garry's Mod kills everything else.
Link Posted: 1/14/2006 2:03:19 PM EDT
Currently I'm liking F.E.A.R.

But mainly for lan play not single player.
Link Posted: 1/14/2006 2:26:28 PM EDT
Land of the Dead is crap, Completed it in 1 hr 58 minutes as I was very bored , Fear is pretty impressive if you have a good PC and BF2 is great but gets old
Link Posted: 1/14/2006 2:29:29 PM EDT
I dunno not much holding my interest. play Worlf of Warcraft spend lots of time on that
Link Posted: 1/14/2006 2:41:06 PM EDT
+1 for scorched earth

Otherwise

Online Play
BF2 (the special forces upgrade isn't any good though)
Call of Duty 2 (OK, but not much improvement over the original)
Counter Strike

Single Player
Halflife 2
Far Cry

Strategy
Command and Conquer Generals

Er, ditto.

Right now it's F.E.A.R (for the third time), and before that DOOM3 and Expansion Pack.

BIA, Earned In Blood was very nice except I found it too hard to be fun and didn't finish.
Link Posted: 1/15/2006 1:42:44 AM EDT
Half-Life 2 looks fantastic, but really doesn't play all that well. And I never thought the famed "physics engine" was all that big of a deal.

F.E.A.R., Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2, LotD: Road to Fiddlers Green, Empire Earth II, Half-Life 2, and so on and so on.......

Theres obviously nothing but new age noob gamers here who like more show then go.

Everyone knows Fallout is the best game ever.

Followed by West Front / East Front is you like strategy.

And just for the record, as East Front as the Germans you cannot win, but its still fun to try.

FB+AEP+Pacific Fighters and Americas Army are the only two games I consistently go back to (ever since their original releases! I've been playing these games for years and through countless version, and they don't get old!). I've outgrown the simple strategy type games -- I need either play&forget (shooter/sim like above) or something involved (like X3 Reunion, or something with a strong/fun campaign, like NFS:MW, Q4).

Recently finished/got tired of:
Age of Empires III
Quake 4
Need For Speed: Most Wanted

Playing Now:
X3: Reunion -- Great game (with 1.3 patch especially), it's single-player rivals the worlds of massive-multiplayer games. Something I may keep coming back to in the future.

Eagerly Anticipating:
Enemy Territory: Quake War's
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

Edit to add:
Great games which are unrivaled:
Operation Flashpoint (ultra-realistic shooter, quite dated now but plenty of mods out, will only be beaten by OpFlash 2 later this year)
Whole Fallout series, every Fallout game, including Tactics!
Capitalism 2
Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain (I loved that game! Still have the CD somewhere, would be great if it worked in XP-SP2)
Zeus (simple'ish citybuilder, fun to kill a few hours in once in a blue moon)

*sigh* As soon as I have the capabilities to play all the games I want, I have almost no time to play them)
Link Posted: 1/15/2006 3:03:29 AM EDT
X-COM!! Jesus, how could I forget X-Com!!

forgot about total anhilliation, I need to get a copy of that. and yes both fallout 1 and 2 were outstanding ways to waste my time

For those of you still playing Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander is due sometime this year. I'm waiting for that game myself.

The new Land of the Dead game sucks.

Wish they would make another Fallout

A lot of games use the "famed" physics engine. Not that big of a deal at all.

Serious Sam 2 is outstanding

Battlefield 2 for multiplayer

Call of Duty 2 isnt bad.

Quake 4 is awesome

F.E.A.R. is awesome

Link Posted: 1/15/2006 12:13:36 PM EDT
Serious Sam 2 is pretty good, sameplay is abit "diffrent"

World of Warcraft is addictive, if you like the MMORPG thing.

F.E.A.R. was good, but too short. I beat it in a few days and was out 40 bucks.

Best games of all time or this year?

Of All Time:

Quake 2
Half-Life
Counter-Strike
WarCraft II
StarCraft
Tribes
Duke Nukem
Doom I & II
Wolfenstein 3D
Unreal Tournament
Quake 3
Descent
Wing Commander
X-Wing Vs TIE-Fighter

Current:

Battlefield 2/SF
FEAR
WOW
Rainbow 6 3
Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War/Winter Assault
Age Of Empires 3

It's been my opinion lately that the glory days of PC gaming are over. With most producers focusing on making games for the consoles and everyone else only making MMORPGs fewer and fewer great games are being made that cater to the hardcore PC audience. It's unfortunate really, the end of an era.

I have BF2 and it's good.....BUT....I like Day of Defeat:Source better. DoD:S

Another good game is Hearts of Iron 2. It's a very in-depth WW2 strategy game.

I stopped playing computer games several years ago because I was so unimpressed with everything that was out. It was all the same stuff re-hashed over and over with new window dressing.

That being said, there are two games coming out this year that look like they might change all that, if they live up to all the hype:

TES: Oblivion
Company of Heroes
Link Posted: 1/16/2006 11:36:42 AM EDT
Fallout Series(my absolute fav, games EVER)
Jagged Alliance Series(second fav games)
Sacred(like diablo but a little more to it, larger overall game, great MP too)
scorched earth

UFO def. and terror from the deep!!! UGH i forgot too! 3 sucked tho:/

I guess software companies are into ressurecting old titles to make them more kickass! Doom 3 was actually, dare I say, SCARY to play!

Actually, Duke Nukem Forever has been in 'development' since the days of Duke Nukem III. Bit of a joke, as the sun will probably go red giant before a Duke Nukem Forever is actually released.

Speaking of old titles, I found my Doom Shareware floppy disks in the original packaging yesterday. Dated 1994. Hrmm, Should I see what they go for on Ebay?

Almost forgot..if you like space simulation, check out FreeSpace 2. This thing got a 9.4 on Gamespot and almost made the game of year. With source code project staffed by users, it looks as good as modern games now even though it was released in 1999.
