I want to get a few opinions, for I plan to refinish my old Springfield 1911 soon.

ETA: Poll added.  If OTHER, specify which.

My uncle has the Roguard finish on a couple of handguns and it looks good and holds up very well on his duty weapon.

Best for what purpose?

I think an old-time rust blued finish, like on a DWM Luger, looks the best, but it's not very durable and doesn't protect much.

Parkerizing is a good general purpose finish... I like it on everything but my "pretty" guns.

Hard chrome is the most durable in my limited experience.

I like blueing with a nice dark wood stock and scope. Thats the ticket. Very conservative, very classy. That doesnt work on all firearms though obviously. For a 1911, dark colors with checkered wodden grips and maybe a chrome slide or something.

CHROME IT, BABY!!!

Though I originally wanted all my guns to be blak... that didn't turn out:

Oh well. Black is nice. I'd go with parkerizing unless you need it a little more durable, then maybe DuraHeat, I've heard good things about that.

which springfield is this? a modern SA or an early pre or post WW2 one ?

if its an early gun then refinishing it would hurt its collectability, if still wanted to then park would prolly be the original finish.
if its a modern SA then do what ya want ....even bling bling gold anodizing
