Does a Remington 870 magnum express 12 guage cut it? Or is there a better shotgun for defensive SHTF purposes?

870 would work just fine, as long as ya know how to use it.

870 is a damn fine scatter gun.  I'm partial to the Mossberg 590, 9 shot with bayonette lug.  Either way you cannot go wrong.

I certainly hope so, since that's pretty much exactly what I just bought last week.

18" 870 magnum express 12ga, extended magazine tube, green duracoat.

Thinking about putting a Knoxx COPstock on it.

I have three defensive shotguns-a Benelli M3s90 and two 870s.

The Benelli is a fast, extremely HSLD shotgun. In a Mad Max, post apocalyptic world however I'd leave the Benelli at home and grab an 870 to back up my M4. Why? It will feed and extract any 12ga round without a worry about malfunction, it's so simple that a monkey can maintain it, and it has very few moving parts.

Spare factory parts are readily available as well.

You will be served very well with your 870

I have mine for sale or trade in the EE.  I need to downsize my CCW and either buy one or trade for one.

I have 4 defence shotguns right now. A benelli nova, 2 saiga-12's & a hk fabarms tactical that cdnn sent me without a charging handle but they said they would send me a replacement right out.  Outa these I like my converted saiga-12 the best.  Here it is , I got it about a week ago. www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?item=36032912  now I just need 8 rounds mags & lots of em. My other saiga-12 is a unmodified defence model with teh ghey regular shoulder stock on it, I dont care to much for that one.

870 Express Mag Home Defense

That is the one... I am pissed that it had some surface rust on the outside of the receiver, but it was very light and cleaned up with oil and a rag...

where could i get the pistol grip stock and extension tube. I know I can search google but if you know of a good online store/brand let me know... thanks

For the factory extention tube you may want to read this thread over in the shotguns forum.

The pistol grip stock I'm interested in is this one from Knoxx Industries.  Watch the video.

I know Remington makes a pistol grip stock for their 870 LE line, but I can't find it on either their normal site or their privileged class website.

Best defensive shotgun?

One that's loaded in your hands that went "BANG" when you pulled the trigger.

I prefer the Mossberg 590A1 to the 870 for home defense.
The 870's a great shotgun, I use one for clays, but I prefer the safety and carrier release (real name?) lever locations on the 590A1.  The bigger tube and heavier barrel are also nice features.

Play with some before you buy.  I had a Mossy 590 and hated the tang saftey.  All the controls are a little different, figure out what you like.

Winchester 1300 Defender, old pic, have replaced the Tacstar light with a surefire G2.

Fix'n to replace the folding stock with a standard composite stock slightly cut down.  This Butler Creek metal folder  just not comfortable on the check.   Will rattle your teeth out if you shoulder it incorrectly in a hurry.

+ another 1 on the 1300s. Great shotguns! For a composite stock, look into the Hogues. Very neat! I believe they're even offered in a "Cadet" length. That folder looks like a real bruiser to shoot!
