I have an M1A but, I think I should use .223 for quicker follow-up shots if it gets close...

I suppose 223 isnt good for deer either.....   Never shot one personally, I know people that swear by handloaded 50 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tips and headshots. YMMV

I've only shot the Win PP. I did not notice any problem. If you rechambered the same round several times you might have a problem. But the few that I chambered and looked at were fine. |

Wow, .223 on Pig.
Must have some small pigs in that part of the world... I wouldn't try that down here.... Her is a bit of a quote : Hunting-fishing in NZ BOAR WILD PIG Sus scrofa Boar Wild PigThe Wild pig was brought into New Zealand by the early sailors in the 1700 s and are spread through the country. With a mulitude of different colours the Wild Boar is in fact a very popular Game animal in New Zealand. A Big Boar can weigh up to 300lb and sport 3inch ivory tusks. With very good eye sight and scense of smell the Wild Boar is a very challenging animal to hunt. Spot and stalking on foot with rifle and Bow is a popular method of hunting along with hunting with dogs. The use of well trained hunting dogs is the prefered method and more productive. This method is not for the faint hearted, as the dogs are finding the pigs, then will do their best to hold the pig while the hunter goes in with a knife.

I have used Winchester 64 grain Power Point Plus, white box 55 grain SP, and Q3131A. All three worked quite well.

I once watched a Softpoint.223 Rem punch 3/8 inch steel @45 degrees
and, the aged brick wall behind. I'm ok with that round VS anything I'm hunting. I'ts not hyperbole. I'ts not ideas. I trust my life to that round. It's my HD round now. |
