Check out Talvistoa. If you can endure the subtitles, it's a sure cure for feeling warm. Production values are not to US standards though.

Saving Private Ryan, on the widescreen and DD 5.1 it's awesome!

Das Boot

The best war production ever is Band Of Brothers, in my opinion.

Followed by Blackhawk Down, then Saving Private Ryan.

We Were Soldiers was a great movie also.
Link Posted: 10/15/2004 2:07:36 PM EDT
Feature-length movie in the theaters: Saving Private Ryan.
If it could be included in the category, I would say Band of Brothers.

+1.

If not, PATTON

Platoon is my favorite Vietnam war movie

Saving Pvt Ryan and Band of Brothers is also very good.

Saving Private Ryan
BraveHeart
Link Posted: 10/15/2004 2:19:14 PM EDT
I think its Full Metal Jacket, you cant go wrong with it,

showing Marine life from boot camp to to the war zone.

Link Posted: 10/15/2004 2:20:01 PM EDT
Band of Brothers--not feature length but by far the best overall.

BHD

SPR--I like SPR better than BHD but I dont' know why really. Maybe I'm sentimental for WWII--we won that one after all and it was a "noble" fight.

None of you guys have seen Cross of Iron ???

It is a fantastic movie.

I also like Black Hawk Down, Zulu Dawn, Saving Private Ryan, and others.

Why NOT "To Hell and Back?" Story of WWII's most decorated soldier.
Link Posted: 10/15/2004 2:26:35 PM EDT
FMJ is my favorite, but it is probably not the "best".

There are just so many. I'm going to say Sgt. York, just because it is about a real hero (BHD was good too).

I got Cross of Iron on DVD, unfortunately it's 4:3 pan and scan, not widescreen. Pretty good flick

Lawrence of Arabia
Bridge on the River Kwai
Tora Tora Tora
Apocalypse Now
We Were Soldiers Once and Young
Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down

If I had to pick one and one only, it's be Private Ryan. Just for the epic scope and portrayal of D-Day, perhaps the defining moment in 20th century warfare.

I was about to type this one in and had to go in the other room for something.

It was pretty good and I am surprised it wasn't already mentioned.

BoB is the best War Story there is but i don't consider it a movie.
