I was wondering which receiver is considered the best, type 1, 2, or 3? I'm particularly interested in the type 1 and type 2 receivers because I can get one or the other from DSA for the same price for their Austrian SA58's. Thanks.

For all intents and purposes it's pretty much cosmetic. I 'd get whichever one you think looks better. I like the type 2 myself.

We've had good results with the USA made type 2 from FAC, fit & finish is good and price is competitive. I like the looks of the type 2 over the 1, just looks more finished and refined.

I like the looks of the type 2 receiver better, and since it's the same price as the type 1 on the rifle I want, I might as well go for it. Thanks.

I'll through in my 2 cents too.  I agree with Atencio, the receiver type is not a big issue for a semi-auto FAL.  While the DSAs are generally considered the best, the Imbel receivers are the best on a cost-per basis.  However, there have been recent reports of barrels bottoming out on Imbels.  This is not a big problem to fix, but it does indicate QA problems.

I've been thinking about trying one of the Dan Coonan receivers for my next build.  I've heard good things about them.  For you persnickity types, however, I believe that they are cast, not forged.

I built a G1 on one of the Coonan receivers, and it was excellent. Bbl timing was perfect, fit and finish was excellent. Full assembly, hs and test fire in a little more than an hour.
