Wow, and my ancestors settled in the Rockingham area for the first couple of hundred years that they were here...Guess I'm a racist too.
But your self-righteous co worker can suck my racist dick for all I care. |

Your co-worker is an idiot. Pithy, eloquent, perfect. I have nothing more to add. I do hope you enjoyed Williamsburg - one of my favorite US cities. |

Tell him to pick a better country and move to it if he doesn't like this one.

Where's he from?
I'm sure if you go back far enough, (maybe even recent history) you'll find crap about his ancestral beginnings. |

The gun smith shop was great. your co worker is full of fail Wish I could afford what they're making there One day, after I finally have every EBR I can think of, all the reloading stuff I'll ever need, and glass for everything, I'm getting a hand-built flintlock ...which is to say...never |

The wait on those things is insane. |

Wifey and I feel at home in Williamsburg and live there if the summers were milder.
We spent a nearly a week with a guide for 3 of the days. Drove to Monticello and next time we will stop at Mt Vernon. Last year's trip was Gettysburg, we were surpised at the lack of diversity in the visitors...just saying. ETA: Co-worker is a turd burgler. |

I'd would've left them in the stockade for a weekend, but then I am old school.

There is no place on this Earth that has not seen the types of activities your co-worker has described. Also there is no race or ethnicity that hasn't been kidnapped, murdered, pillaged, or kept as slaves. His arguement is moot. He must be one of those ignorant history revisors. The innocent can not be made to feel guilty. Whenever I am accused of being a racist due to the events that have shaped our great nation, I simply reply that my family didn't come to this country until 1921! Whether or not it is true is irrelevant, as is the accusers arguement. Enjoy Williamsburg and Jamestown they are indeed treasures.

Next time you see them, spit in their face and smash their head with a fire extinguisher.

Quoted: He said I was honoring kidnappers, murderers, pillagers & slave owners. Never would've ever thought of that. "No, I was honoring a site of historical significance in the development of the most just nation on earth. The nation that punishes kidnappers and murderers. The one that sought to, and did, end the practice of slavery. The one that has been a blessing, and hope, for all people, those who are free and those who wish to be free. Now FOAD you ungrateful ass-wipe." |

It's been a while since I've been there but I think they do discuss slavery from the slave's point of view as well.
edit. Yep. They do. http://history.org/Almanack/people/african/aaintro.cfm |

People ought to take their kids to Williamsburg and skip the usual recreational destinations. At least they might learn something, especially since history is gone from the public schools.

My mom did just that. For years, every damned vacation was to colonial Williamsburg. Neat at first, but after seeing everything there three times it wore thin. |

I guess that means I can't visit the local Indian casinos any more.

Tell your coworker that it could be wrose.
We could be celebrating a culture that kidnapped people and sold them to slavers, think that raping babies cures AIDS, have practiced cannibalism, and have engaged in tribal slaughter for centuries right to the present day. But then, that would be African culture. Cuts both ways, doesn't it? Below is an excerpt from a review the book Out of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa: "...after finishing a three-year tour on the continent, Richburg has written a book in which he elaborates at length on his revulsion with all things African. To hear him tell it, the continent's problems are so "intractable" that the outside world best leave it alone until "Africa is ready to save itself." In one passage, he writes: "I do not hate Africa or the Africans. What I hate is the senseless brutality, the waste of human life." But a few paragraphs later, he oscillates, admitting: "I am terrified of Africa. I don't want to be from this place." And perhaps the greatest sin, he insists, is to romanticize "Mother Africa" as "some kind of black Valhalla, where the descendants of slaves would be welcomed back and where black men and women can walk in true dignity" He's tired, he writes, "of all the ignorance and hypocrisy and the double standards heard and read about Africa, much of it from people who've never been there. Talk to me about Africa and my black roots and my kinship with my African brothers and I'll throw it back in your face."
The resulting memoir, Out of America, takes the reader on an angry tour through some of the world's most wretched places. Each chapter fleshes out his ordeal with anecdotes, autobiographical reminiscences and broad cultural reflections. In refugee camps in Zaire, he sees bodies stacked up like firewood, and in Somalia he witnesses thousands of people literally dying on the streets from starvation. In Rwanda, perhaps the worst place of all, he writes: "I watched the dead float down a river in Tanzania," and "there I was, drenched with sweat under the blistering sun, standing at the Rusmo Falls bridge, watching the bodies float past me. They were bloated now, horribly discolored. Sometimes the hands and feet were bound together. Some were clearly missing some limbs." http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1316/is_n5_v29/ai_19398210/ |

In before <a_random_DU_troll> spawns to defend coworker and systematically educate us on why we are evil for not daily being crushed with our own guilt for something that we personally never did.

Nice passage from the book, by the way. It's nice to see some folks see things realistically. |

Why don’t you ask him what historical or cultural sight DOESN”T honor “kidnappers, murderers, pillagers & slave owners?”
