WTF is with these 'Your item has shipped!!" notifications that give a USPS number that comes up as
The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on March 08, 2011 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later. So you bought the postage online and threw my package in a corner for three days until you get around to mailing it, at least it gives me a way to spend my time clicking on the useless link for three days until it's realliy mailed.

I usually receive the item in the mail before that site is updated.
|

Yeah, pisses me off. They shouldn't send that until it is scanned at the post office.

Still more useful than the "your item has shipped" e-mails I get from newegg the day after the box has arrived.

When you ship with the USPS as soon as you print the label it sends the "shipped notice"

Yeah, pisses me off. They shouldn't send that until it is scanned at the post office. So they're supposed to waste time looking at tracking statuses until it finally updates? Usually it's the same day/ night, but if it misses a scan it could be days for it to update, even though it's on it's way. FYI this type of thing happens with FedEx and UPS all the time too. |

I hate that too. In fact I dropped off a package yesterday at the post office hours before the last pickup and they have yet to update the tracking information.
USPS better not fail me and better have that package delivered tomorrow(it was shipped Priority). The last thing I want to happen is have someone from the EE get pissed off at me. |

Just imagine if the USPS had accurate tracking and notifications like UPS uses - it would cripple their delicate money issues and prevent them from printing 75th anniversary Disney stamps, fuck up the Tour deFrance sponsorships, and a whole slew of important issues. Hell, they'd have to cut the staffing back on the busiest hubs so that instead of 2 warm bodies and 5 counter stations you'd have a midget on a stool in front of a cardboard box.

2/10 Kind of a weak rant. Not enough swearing for GD...I expect better out of Site Staff! |

Didn't USPS cycling sponsorships end in 2004? Otherwise nice rant. |

I posted "bullshit" in a thread title a few months ago and there were numerous complaints I got a complaint a few weeks ago about calling a politician a variation on cocksucker because it was an "anti homosexual remark", so those gosh darn USPS notifications really steam me under the collar. |

Had a guy running a small business due me this way. I actually got two USPS notices 2 weeks apart. I finally got in touch with him and he said he would mail the items the following Monday. I waited till Friday and received nothing. I tried calling again and he wouldn't answer the phone or respond to an e-mail. I finally threatened him with postal fraud since he was using their services. I promptly got a phone call 5 minutes later and we had a "pleasant" discussion. I was refunded my money 3 days later.

I trust the post office more than I do FedEx.
Only recently has UPS finally gotten reliable, at least for me. |

They took my money for the inflatable doll, now where the heck is it?!

USPS sucks. I hope they shut down and private companies take over.

USPS sucks. I hope they shut down and private companies take over. Not me, I cannot ship as cheap with UPS or FedEx. I have not had a package lost or damaged, either being sent by me or to me, in 12 years of buying and selling on the net, when shipped via the USPS. UPS and FedEx have cost me over $2000 combined in losses and damages...mostly losses due to thefts. |

I'm sure they're busy remodeling the stamp machines with bold new graphics, to the tune of $10,000,000,000.00 so they can sell 20 more packs nationwide. |

Automatically generated when the label is printed. Blame the Post Office.

Automatically generated when the label is printed. Blame the Post Office. Blame the SOB's who print the label w/o actually mailing your package for two weeks who then try to blame the PO for it being late. While I'd like to see more scans by the PO (some items I've ordered get more scans than others) at least the "label printed" notification lets you know when your item is *supposedly* ready to ship by the seller. <––-since most people can't navigate UPS or Fed-Ex to ship to AK, I do a lot of mailing(send and receive) via USPS priority mail. The tracking system is rudimentary, but it works.
From here, the only time priority mail is scanned is when you physically hand it to the clerk. If not, it generally stays in the "Billing Info Received" status until it actually hits the sorting center nearest the recipient. This includes all manners of pre-paid mail and mail using the fancy new Auto Postage Centers that are cropping up at local post offices. While it would be nice if the post office scans "acceptance" to your item; just because it doesn't say so, don't automatically assume it hasn't been shipped. |

My UPS tracking numbers usually seem to be very accurate. YMMV same with fedex. USPS tracking sucks. the only time it updates is when it is out for final delivery. |

I've got some needed stuff coming via UPSMI––the tracking sucks and has not been updated one bit....Normal UPS or Fedex's tracking has always been great however..

A certain holster maker sent me these notices every time I called him to ask when my product was being shipped. He would do this just to pasify me for a few days to put me off. I hope your order isn't coming from CONCEALED TECHNOLOGY LLC.! ! ! ! !

I will take shitty tracking over theft.
waiting on the turd truck with my spikes gear atm. Going to get way way worse end of this week and next week when I finish my orders. |

EBay sellers are famous for that BS. I paid for a item Sunday and I'll bet I've gotten three "progress" e-mails from the seller. my bet is it has not left his house as the estimated arrival date is the 12th.
Just get me my damn widget out to me the day after I pay, let me know it's on it's way, and leave me the heck alone. When I sell there I click on "contact the buyer" and inform them that their item has shipped and that is it. None of that auto inform crap for me. If I pay for Priority Mail shipping on a Sunday and the item is not in my hands by Saturday at least I can ding the seller's DNR. The long estimated arrival dates they try to pull on you does not mean crap to me. If I can get a Priority Mail package to AK in three days on the occasions I've sent stuff there then I figure a guy in the next state should be able to do the same. |

My post office in AK is open on a Sunday. If I say I will ship something within 24 hours; I do. Priority mail flat rate from Anchorage to the lower 48 varies from 2 day(record time from AK to GA) to my record––9 days to California. For some reason it takes forever to mail to CA. Guess what––even if I ship something on Sunday it will still just say "billing info received" unless I wait in the long ass line and hand it to the clerk where it may or may not be scanned. Once again, just because you think it hasn't been shipped, doesn't mean it hasn't. |

I hate it when I get the second email from Midway USA about my order being "on the truck" when I know good and damned well it is sitting on a table in the shipping department waiting for the USPS truck to show up the next day. I get it Larry Potterfield, you are a real stickler for shipping.
ETA: Since we are bitching about the post office, I heard that for every few cents they raised the cost of a stamp it made up several million in revenue loss but they were still in the red by a couple of million annually. Hell, I would pay up to a dollar a stamp for them to get their shit straight and have more than one guy at the counter during normal people's lunch hours and 3 people at the counter during non peak hours. |
|
The post office doesn't normally scan a package when it is accepted/picked up. In a lot of cases, there is only one scan and that is when it is delivered. They are getting better about scanning it during transit, but I have never seen them scan it on acceptance. Your package could already be in the mail stream and on it's way to you while you are receiving that message. It doesn't mean it is sitting around.
We used to get questions like this all the time from customers. Fortunately the software we use allows us to print out a manifest that our pickup driver can scan which automagically accepts all of the packages we have shipped that day. That is the only way we have found to make it show that it was accepted. |
