Cold air, cold water, complete darkness, for three days. It's bone chilling.
My fiancee's deceased father came from a West Virginia coal mining family, and everyone of them I've met have been great people. The guys who do that kind of work do so for pretty low pay, in VERY poor conditions, and, ultimately, keep the power flowing for the majority of the country. Best of luck, guys. We're pulling for you. |

SURVIVORS IN MINE
Crews cheer after hearing sounds Cheering rescue workers said they had made contact by telephone with survivors among the trapped miners in Pennsylvania. Details to come from MSNBC Eight of the trapped miners, as identified by friends and relatives are: Thomas Foy, 51, said to be the leader of the trapped crew; Mayhew, Foy’s son-in-law, in his late 20s; John Phillippi, of Gray, married and a father of a son; Ronald Hileman, of Gray, married and an avid hunter; John Unger, 52, of Hollsopple, a part-time farmer; Randy Fogle, 43, of Garrett, married with three children; Robert Pugh, 50, of Boswell; and Mark Popernack, 41, of Somerset, married with two children. |

Some official said that they were in the same position that they were in before: No confirmation has been sent to the families.
Now they're saying "The Governer will make an announcement in 5 minutes". Sounds like grandstanding to me. -Gloftoe Edited to add that this is fucking AWESOME news. |

PLEASE respect our right to believe in the most high God by NOT slamming us for it, and instead contributing to the thread you post in in a positive way, and we will in turn respect YOUR right to choose NOT to believe, by not making religion and belief in a higher power an issue in future discussions involving you. Okay....this is a good news thread getting hijacked by naysayers...Let me try a little fence-mending.
Whatever Deity you pray to, or Higher Power, or Force of Nature, or even if you don't pray at all (and I don't). Nine men who were thought dead have been rescued alive after 3 days in a deep, dark, chilling hole. THIS IS GOOD NEWS, no matter what or if you believe in god or God. Thank you God/Jesus/Jehovah/Yahweh/Buddah/Allah/Vishnu/Samhain/ or Nathan'sFamouswithmustardandkraut. And good health and long life to the survivors and their families. That about cover it? [:D] |
