Someone wasn't following proper procedures...

A Spanish nurse who treated an Ebola victim in Madrid is thought to be the first person to have contracted the virus outside Africa, health officials say.

The nurse tested positive for Ebola in initial tests and doctors are awaiting final results, reports say.

She was part of the team that treated Spanish priest Manuel Garcia Viejo, who died of Ebola on 25 September.

Some 3,400 people have died in the outbreak - mostly in West Africa.

The priest died in the hospital Carlos III de Madrid after catching Ebola in Sierra Leone.

Another Spanish priest, Miguel Pajares, died in August after contracting the virus in Liberia.

The nurse was admitted to hospital on Monday morning with a high fever, Spanish newspaper El Pais said.

Can't happen here. Except everyone forgets the the Ebola snowball just started down the big ol hill, hasn't even picked up speed yet. Bound to be a lot more cases worldwide eventually.

It was probably her fault. In fact, it has to be her fault. She was obviously licking the patient or eating his poop. That's the only way you can catch ebola, according to Arfcom Experts.

I read in another thread, one of our experts here on Arf said it was only through transfer of bodily fluid.

Technically you are correct but threads aren't "rep'd", they're "duped".

The snip of the article in the OP said September 25, not August.

Not yet. Give it an hour or so for the rest of the media to catch up.

Looks like they are saying a second nurse on the same team that treated the same patient.

This would be bad.
Link Posted: 10/6/2014 4:03:30 PM EST
Based on my extensive research of films involving Spanish nurses1 there is a high likelihood that infection occurred through transmission of bodily fluids via a number of orifices.

The things I do for science

It would.

What's worse is not knowing the details about just how in the hell medical professionals in a first world country, in a first world hospital, contracted the virus.

I'm currently part of the "procedures in place". Although I'm not on the Ebola crazy train, I have no faith in the "system".
I saw how little the .gov could do during Katrina....

I thought we were blaming the nurse personally, not the system

Guess I didn't get the memo yet.

ETA: The for healthcare, WHO ranks Spain 7th, the US, 38th.

I blame Obama, except for things that happened before he became president, those things I blame on FDR. Things that happened before FDR I blame on Lincoln.

Spain is a third world country that depends on Faith, not science. They don't have doctors, nurses, knowledge of the germ theory of disease etc. etc.

IT can't happen here.
