What are the chances of Jeanne and Ivan both doing that loop-de-loop? Very strange!
Agreed...it's been a bizarro season so far... |
Me. Jeanne will pass about 110 miles north of me though. The people who got hit by Frances will get hit again. |
Here. I'm in Ft.Lauderdale less than 2 miles from the beach. |

an exceptional year: ..."This is going to be one of those years that goes down in the record books," Jay Barker, author of Florida's Hurricane History, said in an interview. "It's not without precedent, but it's a very significant impact." Florida has borne multiple hurricane hits in a single year several times, but rarely in such swift succession. The last time was in 1886, when the state's population was mostly birds and gators. Three storms battered the Panhandle in a month that year. In 1964, three hurricanes struck the state in less than two months. Since the 1870s, when methodical storm tracking began, four hurricanes have touched Florida in a season only once - in 1893, when two storms scored direct hits and two dealt glancing blows.... ...Consider this: Starting in 1941, Florida was hit by 11 hurricanes in 10 years. There's a big and significant difference now, however. Since the last three-strike season 40 years ago, Florida's coastline has received millions of newcomers, few any more acquainted with hurricanes than Ambelal Patel. Now they know plenty. Lori Redman, who defied evacuation orders and waited out Frances in her Jensen Beach home, was terrified by the storm's duration and the incessant howl of its winds. "I'm not staying anymore for any of them," Redman said. "This is my first and last." The message to Redman and other Floridians from scientists is: Get used to it. The scientists believe that a four-decade lull in storm activity is over, and they warn that Florida is likely to sustain more hits and close brushes for decades to come. Evacuation orders will be more frequent and, because of the numbers involved, logistically complex, experts say. And the potential for damage and injuries is much higher than in the past because of rapid and continuing coastal development. The National Hurricane Center says that even a middling storm could cause far greater monetary losses than a monster hurricane 50 years ago. "The population doesn't show any signs of slowing down," said Colin McAdie, a research meteorologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration who is on a committee of scientists reexamining storms of the past. "Logistically, there is a tremendous difference between now and a hundred years ago."....

you don't have to be a cold weather person, im in CA and its another great day out. We may get taxed up the ass but where else can you live if you like the beach and sun? |
How the hell am I supposed to get a good 'Zero' on my new AR in 75mph gusts....? WTF!
For the beautiful weather, of course! |
Got back from the last one (mini vacation) just a week ago.
Boarded up and bugged IN, this time. No damage last time and we weren't even shuttered. This time we're boarded up, and I'm sure we'll be fine. No way were we bugging out again here. Not for anything less than a cat 4. CJ |
No, Boynton Beach. Where are you? |
Satellite Beach. East of Melbourne, on the barrier island.
Boarded up in a strong CBS constructed house with a tile roof that's been cemented together. It can't get much stronger. I think we'll be fine. CJ |
Hey M4 I'm a fellow Oregonian here. I'm in Melbourne right now going to college. We're just starting to feel the affects of the Hurricane. Its raining off and on and a little gusty. Its going to be a bumpy ride.
Hell, I'm still suffering the effects of Frances. Need a new roof at hoe, nine days w/o power. Lost 2/3rds of the roof and all of our parts room stock at my work. I have been wearing my poncho to work in, tired of wet feet.
Looks like Jeanne is coming ashore here. MY BRAIN HURTS!!! |

You FL folks can relax a bit, it's only a CAT3. Stay dry! |
Looks like Fort Pierce is front row....you guys hang tough. After it's over, help will be on the way. Jeb said he has trucks lined up and ready to go...again.
Dude...you have'nt been in a hurricane before, have you? Cat.3 can kick your ass just as bad. Anything over 100 mph will tear trees up and sail shingles like frisbees. I guess you're just trying to be positive...but, this is more powerful than Francis and all of S. Fl has weakened trees and roofs. Hang tough guys. |
You guys all have your long piece of rope ready right?
I do and I'm ready to ROCK! |
They are now saying it will be a CAT 4 when it hits. Just heard on Fox. |
Bah!! this is gettin old. It effects the WHOLE state no matter where it hits.
The chances of both of these hurricanes making the hard turns and loops that they have occurring under natural circumstances? The chances of FOUR major hurricanes hitting Florida and the Southeast in less than 6 weeks? God bless all of you folks who have been and will be in these storms' paths. |
any cat storm sucks!!,, ya'd be surprised what even 80mph winds can do!!!! |
It begins.
Some idiot surfer just got thrown out of the ocean by the surf. His board's still out there and he's walking toward the beach on the rocks at the jetty at Canaveral as I write this. (Scanner's on, of course!) He's lucky to be alive. Darwin almost got him! Winds are picking up, and we're about as ready as we're going to get. Only had one rain band so far, and it didn't last long at all. What concerns me most is all the piles of debris that still haven't been picked up by the trash haulers. They worked hard to get it all cleared in time, but there's just too much of it. That's the main reason for boarding up. Winds don't break windows, things thrown by winds break windows! The Sheriff's Dept. just called all the east precinct deputies to seek their shelters. That about wraps up law enforcement for the beaches! CJ |
Great. Got evacusted from Aircrew school in NAS Pensacola for Ivan, scheduled to attened LPNV instead in Jax in a bit less than 3 weeks. Wonder if the place will get torn up and the school canceled and I'll get railed on this one too?
Bonnie, Charlie, Francis, Ivan, Jeanne so far I estimate more before the end of hurricane season. Karl is next. Very sad. |

Brave talk from North Carolina. |
No shit. |
I guess Melborne, Ft. Pierce and Port ST.Lucie are without power now..prayers sent.
And to Mr. Carolina..yeah, I bet you've been through 5 storms in 6 weeks before. I wish I had that hillbilly bravery down here right now. We're just a bunch of wussies...why don't you come down here and help us after the storm is over?? We could use your experise. |
Iraq |
I'm in Iraq. Don't call me a hillbilly. Suck it up. |
Tell you what. You don't call me a wimp for bitching about 135 mph winds and I won't call you a homo for worrying about IEDs. |
sorry.. a little grumpy, and a lot homesick. gotta go for today |
Tell you what Braveheart...you worry about your job and stay away from hurricane threads. People are losing their homes, their livelihoods and lives. We do not need someone challenging our bravery right now. |
Roger that. We all have bad days and you're in a good place for developing those kind of days. Watch your back - stay safe. |
