Why?  2006-2008 were basically the same in terms of appearance; 2009-2011(2012 for coupes) had some cosmetic updates.  Other than that, it's "under the hood" stuff.

Fair enough.  My point was more that the 135i isn't exactly a "bargain" in comparison at only 15% less money.

I had my heart set on a 335i.  I drove one (a sedan) and was instantly hooked.  However, I went down to Columbus to find the exact exterior/interior I was looking for in a 335 coupe.  I was just about to pull the checkbook out on this black on black coupe when one of the guys asked my if I had ever driven one of the 135s.  I kind of wrinkled my nose.  He said its the same motor (N54 twin turbo), less curb weight, upgraded brakes (brembos), etc.  I said what the hell and took it out.  Thats all it took.  It was like a go-cart on rails which is exactly what I was looking for.  I took the extra cash and instantly started throwing it into upgrades (wheels, suspension, tune, etc.)  I still love the 335 coupes, but I love the way the 1er feels.

Nice M3.  To be fair, that's not a 335i you're comparing it to and you've put quite a bit into the M3 as opposed to the stock NA E90.

edit:  once i hit 100k on the e90 i will be getting a 135i

That's my thinking.  Given the same cost, I'd rather get a 1er and have money to blow at Dinan than a stock 3 series

The 335 is definitely the looker of the pair, but I don't need the extra back seat/trunk room, and I rather like the shorter wheelbase.

BMW is going to renumber things, right?

BMW 3 = 4-door sedans
BMW 4 = 2-door coupes and convertibles

I wonder if this means there'll also be a BMW 2 series?

Yep, there will be a 2

All coupes two door vehicles will be even numbers.  Unless its a Gran Coupe.

At least its no less honest than their numbering today

I drive a '88 325iS. Just turned over a quarter million miles. Soon, it will start getting (slowly) transformed into a race car (Spec E30).

The new 3 series cars are too big. I would really like a a M135i or 1M as a street car.

Nice ride.

From what I've read, the replacement for the current 1 series will be a 2, since it's a coupe.  The new 1 series (a 4 door hatch, already being sold in Europe) probably won't be sold here, and is on a mini platform and FWD (with the M version being AWD).
