I really like squads that use VoIP and actually play as a squad.  I have also noticed that the "secret" in BF2 is to pick an active flag as a squad and DEFEND it.  Let the enemy come to you.  You will get a lot more points, less deaths and more kills.  "Flag hoppers" don't do much for the team and won't score as many points.

ona  64 person server each team has enough to hold flags. 3 people can hold a flag if they have a medic that is good.
a good 5 man squad with 2 good medics can take almost any flag as long as the squad leader sets himself up ina good safe position.

Being in a good squad definitely makes a huge difference. I also notice that a lot of players don't watch their flanks, including tanks, APCs, etc.
