I was reading Boston T. Party's "Gun Bible" and he has a section on "How the BATF Operates:"

Most BATF busts are based on stings and entrapments.  BATmen won't scour the urban ghettos for gangstas' Uzis but they will try to lure the stupid and uninformed into traps.  It's not about fighting violent crime (which is dangerous work), but about hounding peaceable gunowners out of existence.

The only BATF raids I know about were against a church group and a family.  Are there any that would qualify as "fighting violent crime?"

I am unaware of original operations, but they often (sometimes) work in conjunction with State/local law enforcement in operations against drug dealers.  I have dealt with them both in ad hoc capacity and OCDETF.
