Austrian BASE Jumper Maria Steinmayr cheated death when her parachute failed to open properly after leaping from the top of the Gran Bali Hotel in Benidorm, Spain. Footage shows the World Championship Extreme Base Jumping competitor plummeting out of control towards the ground before miraculously slamming into the building and landing on a balcony. Steinmayr suffered only a few bruises.

Looked like it fully opened to me.
The main danger of base jumping is that the wind and dynamics of the opening parachute can cause you to slam into whatever you jumped from with little to no ability to avoid it. Then of course there's the danger of the chute not opening... and there not being time for a second chute... But the chute failing is much less likely than people hitting things on the way down. |

Now if they have permission etc. then OK, but they are still playing an elaborate game of Russian roulette. Still idiots though.
