I'm selling a car on Autotrader (I have 4 cars, need to thin the herd). The car is a quasi-collectible, has very low miles and has an NADA value of close to $40K. Comparable cars sell for $38-$42K.
1st caller: I live in CA and really want your car, but it will cost me $2K to ship it in an enclosed trailer back to me. I would have been willing to pay $38K, but since I have to cover shipping, I can only offer $36K. I then tell him that at his price "I'm covering his shipping."
2nd caller: I'm a collector and your car has an NADA value of $36,300. Me: No, it's close to $40K. He then proceeds to offer me $33K (which is less than what a dealer offered me to sell it to them, not trade it in). He then tells me to call him if I "come around on price." Yes, because you're only trying to scalp me for $6,000.
...and on and on and on. Every call except one has been an exercise in futility. Not to mention the horrifying amounts of spam texts, BS calls from auto-brokers, etc. At least I thought ahead and got a cheap phone from Walmart so I didn't have to give out my real phone #.
I finally broke down and listed it on Ebay so I don't have to deal with the calls.
