2006 F250 6.0 power stroke. CEL came on today, code says cam position sensor. Drives, idles, does everything perfect. Usually when they shit the bed, you get a crank but no start condition. Is the sensor the real culprit? Do you think bad wiring possibly? I'll be ecstatic if it's just the sensor and not a wire chasing disaster, but it sounds unlikely.

Fortunately for you YOU have that attitude.

Plenty of 6.0 Owners out there making a truck payment, and another credit card payment on a engine swap

It compares the output of the cam and crank sensors and if there is a difference then it will set a code. The sensor may be failing but is still within range. I would keep a spare in the glove box just incase so buying one to swap out is a good idea.

Buy another cam sensor, a crank sensor, and inspect the wiring.  Otherwise you may end up stranded when you din't want to be.  Cam sensor change is easy, the crank sensor requires a little more contortion and creative thought process.  If you don't have one get a scangauge 2 while you are at it.  It will save you a fortune in troubleshooting.
