So what do you guys think about the Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine? Is it all that, or should I stay away? Want a blaster not a wall hanger, so don't say get a US GI one.

From what I read they are garbagio, I'm curious if it is true.

Why not get a USGI?

For one, they are cheaper...
For two, they actually work.

I wouldn't touch anything that has Auto Ordnance stamped on it.
ETA: Scratch that, I'll touch anything, if it's cheap enough...
and I don't know any other way to get a Thompson, either.

Well that depends on many things.

My FFL picked up a spotless USGI for $100 with around 20 mags and 1K ammo.
I'm not that lucky. $400-$500 for a good example should be doable. Shop around.
Don't buy Universal either.

The commercial Iver Johnson is a cheap way to go, and they run good in my experiences with em.

I've probably shot over 1K through my '43 Inland I got from CMP. No telling how many rounds went through it before me. None of my C&R's are wall hangers, especially my M1 carbine.

And that matters due to the lack of quality in the first place.
Universals are the more problem prone of the pack.

I'm not sure how much better or worse the AutoOrd ones are, but their pricing takes them right out of consideration.
