If they can pass the same tests and perform to the same level, I have no problem with this.

Unfortunately, that is unlikely to be the case. Girls will be admitted to the Australian SF, regardless of whether or not they are qualified. Politicians and generals don't like to have their pandering interrupted by silly things like rules or standards.

If the units were seperate, ie female only units, I would be okay with it. Think of how much money we invest into our special forces/SEALs/Recon/Para Rescue. Now think about letting women into these units and get some guys kicked out for sexual harrassment. Now I'm pissed. The wife just got up and I'm going to tell her to make me a sammich!

Maybe its for morale purposes for blokes who are at the point of the spear. I can tell you put some hot aussie chicks on one our bases for a week morale will spike through the roof!

Realistically though, is there actually a demand by female soldiers to try out for SF?
Link Posted: 10/3/2011 7:02:50 AM EST
Assuming they don't go PC, they have to pass selection first.

Now it's not the same as SAS selection, but it's the closest comparison that I can think of right now:

One woman only (If I remember correctly), an Army Captain (at the time) named Pip Tattersall passed the All Arms Commando Course on her third attempt. It's normally something done by all Royal Marines in order to be Commando trained, but some other branches are allowed to try for their Commando badge.

How many woman not only want to attempt selection, but also can actually pass selection might be a very low number indeed.

Assuming you select qualified females, there is a real capability in having females in a special operations unit. Special operation screening is highly selective anyways regardless of gender. In certain situations a female can get into places a male may have trouble getting into. A female can pose as a mother, maid, waitress, housekeeper etc and actually collect intel, plant sensors, perhaps even take out high valued targets. Men have a natural (often vulenerable) assumption about women and will likely let their guard down around them. Femme fatale.

On the other hand I am opposed to females in combat arms units like infantry, tanks, etc. That would be logistically daunting and a bridge too far IMHO.

Probably 4 or 5, which is more than enough reason to re-vamp the entire system in the eyes of a liberal.

In any area in which the West is likely to be fighting any time soon?? Lessee . . . Africa, no, not really, not a lot of call for white female Australian au pairs or waitresses there. Arabia, nyet. Southeast Asia, umm, noppers.

Maybe if the Aussies invaded Greece? "Today, Lesbos, tomorrow the world!"?

Hey friend, I'll let you in on a little secret...Austrailia has other races then whities...and are you that short sighted where you can't imagine a white female pretend to be a UN relief worker, reporter, doctor, nurse, etc. etc.? Imagination?

Also, I was speaking about other nations including the US, UK, etc.

Is it really all that secret that relief workers don't want anyone impersonating them because then they would be blocked from providing "relief"?

Talking about "short sighted". "Yeah, let's go pretend to be part of Doctors Without Borders and go dig up some intel in Somalia, then when the real guys go in, we can use their executions as a reason to go in and pound the shit out of the skinnies!" Sure, that'll go over well.

NZSAS have allowed this for sometime. To date no women has passed selection, it is a significant physical test.
In addition, NZSAS now allows civilians to join directly. Again if you can pass the tests. Apparently because "NZSAS has become an official trade specialisation"
{I don't believe this has actually occurred yet either]

You alright man? Long day at work? Forget your meds? Schools out?

I don't need to spell out the use of females in SOF and in fact some one already beat me to it; see below link:

Hmm . . .
The Soldiers assigned to the Cultural Support Teams aren't required to endure all the training of a Ranger or SF trooper,

. . . sure, call them whatever you want.

I still talk with one of their Captains and she is a total badass. They hold their Soldiers to high standard, and if the females can make it...... Who the hell are we to say no?

And the 4 were definately NOT ugly!

The problem with New Zealand is their military has no real equipment.

I believe they depend a lot on Australia.

The Aussies have a serious military and I wonder what this will do to it?

NZ has fuck all military. They shitcanned most of their fighters a while ago and as part of their justification for doing so, their politicians said they werent needed because they can just rely on Aus

Do they still not let our ships dock there b/c of our policy on not saying if nukes are on board or not?

On the surface, I have no problem with it––as long as the standards aren't changed. I say let women do whatever they want to do, as long as they can do the job, and the standards aren't changed for them. Let the best person do the job, regardless of testicle ownership.

BUT––and like mine, this is a rather large but––I have never served in a combat unit, let alone Special Forces.

There is a very good chance that a bond, or morale, or small unit cohesive force, esprit de corps, whatever you want to call it––could be shattered by making it co-ed. Maybe this is a stumbling block that needs to be overcome, or maybe it's just not a good idea...I don't know. I certainly see the desireability of it: Seems to me that a woman might be great camoflage in many situations, or not even considered a threat (until it was too late). I don't know if there would be drawbacks, and how powerful these drawbacks would be.

Seems to me that the only people qualified to make this choice are SPECOPS bubbas. I don't think it's something that should be treated lightly.

Let SPECOPS determine if it's a good idea or not.
Link Posted: 10/3/2011 8:42:59 PM EST
Stupid. Just going to cause tension. Only one sex should be allowed in Special Forces. When females become the tough majority, then they can take over and the guys leave.
