Ive been wondering for a long time if I could have a Nissan diesel engine only Imported to the USA and have it be Oregon D.O.T emissions legal>? Im sure the austrailian members probablely dont knoe US emmission standards but if someone could post specs on a nissan diesel including emissions specs I could look it up Im pritty sure said engine would cost me 3-4k US but id probably be willing to do it if  could drop it in my 95 hardbody

HI,
I've come to have too much experience with U.S. customs to have much confidence in importing anything with an engine.  Even if it's an engine it will have to be tested by DOT and EPA and brought into compliance with our emission and safety standards.  There are a tonne of hoops to jump through and it'll probably cost more to bring it into compliance....or have it tested for compliance to make it worth while.  Call a customs brokerage house before purchasing an engine overseas, you're prolly better off finding one stateside.
