A guy I know is taking the gunsmithing course from Pennfoster Career School.

He enrolls, pays a fee, and they send him a work packet.

He does the work and mails  back the completed written tests and projects.

Are these courses beneficial to an aspiring gunsmith? Has anyone here taken one?

I know this type of correspondence course does not compare to going to a brick and mortar trade school, but would a course like the one linked below
give the student enough training to get them started as a part time gunsmith?

If you are bored and have exhausted all other leisure activities and learning gunsmithing entertains you, it's worth it.

If you are planning on earning money at gunsmithing, you need a CT scan.

If you're not running a mill, lathe and grinder, you're just assembling parts, not gunsmithing.

You'd be better off buying a hacksaw, dremmel and a black sharpie, and watching youtube videos on how to gunsmith

98% of gunsmithing can be self taught with good online resources or books. It's 80% simple machining/woodworking and 20% understanding mechanics.

This.  Also include learning how to take a plank of wood and carving it into a gunstock.

I didn't see Dremel listed in those tools...

WECSOG.  Been awhile since I've seen that.  I don't spend as much time in the tech forum as I used to.
