This is a 1939 Russian Mosin Nagant I turned into a scout rifle.

I was warned that it would recoil very hard so I threaded the muzzle for a brake I made for this rifle. The barrel is 17". It's shooting Russian light ball.

From this video, what can we surmise about the effectiveness of the brake? My friend in the video is not a big guy. Medium build.

I am going to make a night video to see how this brake looks with fire coming out of it

Your muzzle brake must be working 100% effectively, all I see is a picture of bright white muzzle flash.

Excellent design OP

I love short boom sticks

OP...could of been worse..you could be a Turkish firefighter demonstrating how to light a fire:

The blonde babe in the background didn't flinch at all.

He owns a m44. He was impressed.

There was some talk of a shorter barrel producing less kick with the reduction in velocity. I don't know if there was any basis in fact. Others say the lighter, shorter rifle will kick the crap out of you.

In the 3rd video the 2nd or 3rd shot has some flame, but the others didn't.

I will preface this comment by saying that I normally DESPISE fucking with historical milsurp guns, even cheap and plentiful ones like a Mosin...

But that setup with the small section of rail, micro dot, and brake looks really slick to me!  Relatively light, functional package that shoots cheap ammo and generates a lot of 'FUCK YOU' on the business end.

I like it.

Only the video in the op is mine. If you watch carefully you can see flame come out the left side about a foot or more.

Thanks, I was just going to ask if you had any build specs.

This project appears to have a pretty kick ass cost : effectiveness ratio.

Force = Mass x Acceleration, not Mass x Velocity

looks just like a holland brake.. and they claim 45% reduction on recoil. and it closer to 50% in my tests.

The AK74-style muzzle brake that I put on my M44 worked like a champ.  Made the thing a lot more fun to shoot.

I'm surprised that so very few no-gunsmithing muzzle brakes exist for the mosin.  One would think that they would sell like hotcakes.

I clocked mine as part of the machining process. I put the turned blank on the muzzle and marked it about 5 degrees off center so when I snugged it up it would be straight up.

This is a screen shot of the blast. The separation between the fireballs is the muzzle brake. Lots more fire out the sides than the end.
