Last night, driving home from thanks giving with my dad, started to go blind and then developed a skull splitting migraine on the way home.

Drink any wine? Thats a trigger for some migraine sufferers.
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:14:50 PM EDT
Ya might want to have that looked at.
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:17:25 PM EDT
Why were you masterbating while driving
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:18:04 PM EDT

Too much sugar or artificial sweetener maybe?

I had the same thing happen to me last Sunday after eating at Hate Chicken and drinking some insanely sweet tea.

Let's add pituitary tumor to the list of medical stuff that's been thrown out there so far.

How long did it last? What did it feel like? Turning out a light or closing in from the sides? Did your extremities tingle(hands feet)
Did you feel edgy, nervous, sweaty afterwards?

Age? Health? Heart history?

It may have been a migraine with an aura or optical migraine. Regardless, best have it professionally checked out.
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:24:12 PM EDT
Ocular migraine. Know a guy that had the same thing happen to him. I'll ask what he did to remedy the problem .
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:24:35 PM EDT
You have an ironic name, OP.

Now, I don't know much about anything, but I think some of American's best young men served in this war. There was Dallas, from Phoenix. Cleveland, he was Detroit. Jersey, he was from Texas, And Tex was, well, I don't remember where Tex come from.

Go see a doctor.

Dehydrated. Drink more water.
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:26:11 PM EDT
Get off the internet and have someone else drive you to the doctor.
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:26:38 PM EDT
Hate to break it to you, but you were blind the whole time.
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:27:18 PM EDT
Drink some water, 600mg motrin, and fresh socks.

Also, go see a dr and tell us what he says.

I've got a history of migraines going back over ten years, so it's not likely. Feeling like total shit today, but not confused or diminished.

26, okay, some mitral valve issues.

visual distortion came in from the bottom right of my vision, first noticed a problem when i couldn't read roadsigns anymore. there was basically a void where there was *nothing*, not dark, not black, just *nothing* (which is hard to explain to somebody who's never experienced it)

no pain at first, when i went into the store to get ibuprofen and coke (caffeine helps sometime) I noticed that my spatial awareness of my right arm was kinda funky, but that could also be related to the visual problems i had even seeing my right hand, punching my pin into the pad felt equally strange but i managed to not make any mistakes.

About 20 to 35 minutes after eating 800mg of ibuprofen and half a coke, the pain started in on my left eye, and my vision started to return, within the next hour my vision returned fully and my left eye felt like it was going to explode, intense pressure/pain, the eye was noticeably more firm to the touch than the right eye.
By this point I was home and managed to get to sleep, woke up at about 3 AM feeling pretty okay, and since then I've slowly settled into a sort of "hangover" type of feeling.

It may have been the canned food that one of the casseroles had in it; every migraine I've ever had has been preceded by eating canned food.

I'd go with this. I went partially blind in my left eye a bit over 3 years ago. Ended up being a stroke caused by PFO (PFO is a hole between the upper chambers of the heart) even though I had no other symptoms.

eta. I used to suffer from ocular migraines regularly and occasional full blown migraines. I have not had either since the hole was closed off. It is not uncommon for folks with PFO to suffer from migraines and have them stop when the PFO is closed up.

I see nothing in your follow up post about what they said at the emergency room.

Odd that you would leave that out.

I've gone down that road before, but I've had an average of about one of these a year since i was 13, they haven't found anything yet and ER visits aren't cheap.

Best answer has been basically: "well, that sucks."

Ocular Migraine. I get them every couple months or so. They are horrible, especially if you are driving. Most of the time, I get them after eating too much sugar. Although, I have gotten them randomly before as well. I see what looks like concentrated flashes of light, then slowly lose all my peripheral vision, followed by the worst migraine you can imagine. I have found that taking multipe headache pills as soon as I start experiencing them, it helps a lot. Also, laying down in a dark room and relaxing helps as well.

Important to be as vague as possible in the OP.

Dibs on optics

Fluid build up on the brain. Pressure on the optical nerves and splitting headache.

You gotta get drained.

Yep...I am the slow one...checked and you are ama-ing just fine!

Hey...we get IMPATIENT around here!

And good to hear you are better, as well! Although sorry about the on-going part...that would be beyond scary!

My warning for an impending migraine is a loss of peripheral vision. When it feels like I'm looking through a paper towel tube I know what's coming, the headache and nausea show up about half an hour later. Thankfully they're very rare and I've only had a few in my life.

feeling hungover as hell right now, but we're getting better.

in my case the pain doesn't start until my vision starts to return, and the actual headache doesn't usually start till the next day, the pain i get after the vision returns is my eyes themselves feeling like they're going to explode.

You go blind once a year?
Link Posted: 11/28/2014 12:42:18 PM EDT
I get a migraine with visual aura/blindness about 8-9 times per year. It really sucks when it happens while driving. If alone I usually just pull over and wait the 30 minutes or so for it to pass and then try to get home before the pounding headache starts. I usually feel like crap for about 3 days. Strangely, I usually know within 24 hours of when one will start because I get a strange smell like burning hot metal.

This. Happened to me a couple times in high school and got drug to the ER over it. Just drink water and you'll be fine. Avoiding artificial light helped me too for some odd reason.

It's not a "I can't see oh god oh god oh god" it's more of a "everything in the bottom right corner of my vision no longer exists."

I can still see objects and avoid things, I just can't read anything or make out fine detail; kinda like....

Imagine what you see right now, then imagine you opened up MS paint, used the spray can tool, and just started spraying around all over your vision. each speck is not a part where you can't see anything, it's like an invisible/clear... void. it's not black, it's nothing, and your brain tries to fill up that space by guessing and using the colors near the spot where you can't see.

It happens every once in awhile. I wouldn't worry too much about it, OP.

Still, it sucks! I know!

Well hopefully I can find something that works to stop them, fortunately they're not that common for me.
