On what phone line? Comms are down.
Then what are you gonna do? Stand on the roof and yell?
No I'm gonna use the land line in my office. The lines that are down are the primary and secondary that the alarm panel uses to send the alarm signal to to the monitoring company. In this case the alarm will sound, but the monitoring company (kinda like ADT) wont know it and therefore not dispatch the fire dept. Thats why I have to be here.
ETA- I'm pretty sure I made this distinction in the 3rd post from the top.
Seems like it would be easier to just hook the alarm system into a different phone line temporarily...
You would think so but it doesnt work that way. The monitoring company knows the building address and nature of the call based on the phone number they have programmed. If I switched lines they would receive notification, but have no idea what or where it was coming from. All sorts of confusion would ensue.
Anyway, the lines came back up around 2am and I was able to [/firewatch]
