I was watching the Senate hearings questioning the executive branch and the Justice Dept. about their decisions regarding the detainment of suspects and their use of military tribunals, etc.

The dems came on strong as promoting civil rights and civil liberties.  Well, on the surface anyways. What they're really promoting are their own personal socialist agendas.  None was more obvious than Schumer.  He gets up there and asks Ashcroft why they aren't using the NICS to track down terror suspects who obtained firearms.  His logic was that the Justice Dept. is seeking more "tools" in the fight on terror and instead of trashing the 4th Amendment, why not trash the 2nd, which the Senatorial left doesn't happen to like.

I couldn't believe my ears!  Here Schumer is trying to defend one liberty by attacking another.  Hypocrite!!!!

They both know that the NICS is not a firearms registry and that it is supposed to be an allow/deny type of thing.  Yet Schumer is pushing--he hates the fact that Ashcroft did the right thing and is having NICS records destroyed within 24 hours (supposedly).  Schumer (and lots of other idiot Senators, no doubt) want to see the NICS used as a de facto registry of gun owners despite the knowledge that it would probably not lead to any further arrests (box cutters, ahem) in this situation.  I doubt very much that members of terrorist cells routinely go out to gun shops to purchase firearms being that they are non-citizens.  Even if they did, so what?  They're going to get guns if they want them.  Why would a terrorist have any qualms about breaking the law, after all?

Not news to most of us on the board, but further evidence that the RKBA is under fire from these traitors and they will use every trick in the book.  They hide behind a thin veil of protecting our rights while trampling them at every opportunity.

our good friend Waxman just grilled Ashcroft because he "should have taken the initiative to change the laws..." and said that he would be more than willing to help out in that regard.
