Good stuff. Just started reading it, I couldn't wait I had to post this for you guys. It's long so if your not in the mood to read right now (on a forum?), bookmark it for later. http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/usr/wbardwel/public/nfalist/guns_and_violence.txt Edit to say- BTW this isn't anti-gun carp, this is the kind of stuff EVERYONE should read.

When I saw that it was by Doctors, my first thought was More Anti-Gun Crap! Then I noticed that Fackler was one of the authors. Then I read it. Good to know that some doctors have real common sense after all. Save this one.

As far as I'm concerned, if this article hasn't been posted before, we should Pin this SOB!!

First, Excellent article. It's about time someone put common sense in this language. Second, somebody with common sense just made a stand. 37 of them, to be exact. PLEASE write or contact these MDs and thank them for their contribution. These people are busy, and took the time to make a statement that goes against most of the groups that represent them. Take the time to thank them. Personally, in addition to letters to any of these I can find, I plan to offer: Barlow Smith MD Department of Pathology Medical College of Virginia Richmond VA a lunch at his convenience. He lives in my home town. Maybe others could do the same? Black Fox

Hmmm. Only problem is that there is no Barlow Smith at MCV. Wonder what that means. Black Fox

Judging from the reference to "Senator Bob Dole" I have to think this was written in the mid '90's, so it's possible the Dr. has moved on.

"An important nexus exists where public policy touches the constitution. Television violence has been deemed a cause of violence,[55,56,57] but outlawing entertainment violence and sensationalized newscasting is precluded by First Amendment guarantees." Well said by thinking men,to bad thinking men don't run the show.

Fantastic article. I think I'll print it off and see if we can't read and discuss it for our next journal club meeting next month. (I am a general surgery resident).
