Squid are scarier looking, but octopuses are supposedly really smart.

Giant squid are much more aggressive. Their suction cups are also lined with teeth.

The Giant Squid is a critter straight from Hell. They've got those two especially long arms ye see. Why I've seen em grab the helmsman right off the stern with one arm and drag a ship to the bottom with the other. Arrrg!

Neiither is scary rather they are very cool!!

Giant octopii never really get that big. The squid is much cooler! #1 cause no one has ever actually seen one in the wild alive, they are like the bigfoot of the ocean. But their dead bodiies have washed up as well as the beaks beinig found in whales stomachs. Based on the largest beak found the longest squid is estimated to measure some 50 feet including the two vert long tentacles. They have a huge model iin the NY natural hiistory museum, very cool! and tasty.

Between an Octopus and a Squid, I'd have t' say t' squid be t' scariest o' them all. Aye, t' octopus has more legs, but t' sqiud be pure evil. Arrrrr.

I guess it depends on how they're prepared. Either one could be pretty tough and chewy. I'd be afraid of losing a filling more on the giant squid though...

Giant squid. I've never heard of a giant octopus eating anyone. Giant squid, on the other hand, have been documented attacking ship's sonar domes and eating sailors drifting at sea.

Neither. Everyone knows that the REAL enemy of pirates everywhere is ninjas. Ninjas are far more dangerous than giant squids and giant octopi.

Although, I suppose that if you crossbred a ninja with a giant squid or giant octopi to make some sort of stealth, shuriken-throwing 8-armed monster then that would be the stuff of pirate nightmares...

The squid are pretty badass. They can grow up to 75 feet long and weigh 1,000 pounds. They also have lots of suction cups filled with razor sharp teeth.

This story was in National Geographic, so it must be true:

(From an article on squids)...The author was scuba diving in the Sea of Cortez, and was just below the surface when two large squid (bodies about 3 feet in length) glided up out of the depths...both squid spent several several seconds looking him over, then suddenly without warning at the same time they seized him and jetted off into the deep. By the time he was able to escape their grip, he was about 60' down!

Scary! I'll have to dig that article up again...

I can believe it...about the coordinated attack. Squid "talk" to each other. They have huge eyes and great sight. They can change their skin coloration at will to send messages to eachother. I have no doubt that these two took a look, decided to dine, and then timed their attack together.

Darn aggresive monsters. Looking at those pictures of the teeth-lined suction cups gives me the creeps.

In the Gulf of California there are quite large squid ( around 6 foot ) that have been known to attack fishermen......

A large colony of Giant Octopus live in the wreckage of the old Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Divers visit and interact with them all the time. They are curious animals and sometimes emerge to check out divers up close and personal.

Large squid on the other hand, Humbolt, Giant etc. are VERY, VERY aggressive and frankly the idea of encountering one scares the poop out ot me.
