Does anyone have an online source for Army FM's? I am looking for the one on Map Reading. I'm gonna teach my wife how to do it, and don't want to steer her wrong. (As well as refresh myself).

Sure, I'd love one.
Don't get it though if it's more than like 2-3 bucks, I couldn't afford to pay you any more than that.

Does anyone else know an online resource for these? It's gotta be out there somewhere, a huge database for FM's, open to public perusal.

you only have to meet those requirements if you want access to restricted documents.  the land nav manual is okay for public distro.  try here

Besides, all you really need to remember is "right and up" and your pace count.

HOLY CRAP!
That file is 24MB!!!!
That'd take me 2 hours on my 56k.
Thank anyways, I guess I'll just go and get it (and a few others) at the next WAC show.

map reading the [red]USMC[/red] (insert your favorite "rival" here) way:

(this takes 2 or more people)

1. lay map on ground
2. while 1 person looks at map
have 1 or more people shake the nearest tree.
3. where the tree shakes on the map, is where you are.

i heard a similar one the other night, while waiting at my pick-up point.  basically, one of the guys suggested that we "call higher, and tell them to look real closely at the map.  where the bright spot is, that's where we're at.  we're all shining our flashlights at the sky"

I downloaded the whole thing, and zipped it up.  Zipped, it's 7.3MB.  I put it up on the 'net if you want it.  http://ucs.orst.edu/~voilsb/land-nav.zip
