Later, police searched a bedroom in Knoth’s home, where they discovered two different machine guns, one of which was loaded; ammunition and loaded magazines, federal officials said. The loaded gun had no visible serial numbers or manufacturer’s stamp, officials said.

We talking real machineguns?  My guess is a 10/22 and an AR?
Link Posted: 2/25/2016 11:27:15 PM EDT
Machine guns?. Not likely.  Not impossible but not likely.
Link Posted: 2/25/2016 11:30:04 PM EDT
Fucking weird dude, to be sure.

But I can't help but wonder if the "non-serialized machineguns" were AR's without a disconnector installed. It'd be a machinegun in theory, but not in practice. Just my wild, unfounded speculation.

Finished 80% lowers probably. Damn ghost guns.

What's a high schooler doing with a PC? Or better question, how did he make a third pin lower?

Investigators also searched Knoth’s home. During a search of the southwest bedroom, investigators found a loaded machine gun in the closet, an AR-style .223/.556 pistol, containing no visible serial numbers or manufacturer stamp. They found a second machine gun, an UZI-style 9mm firearm (unknown manufacture), in the dresser. Investigators found a receipt from M&A Parts, Inc., which listed various firearm parts, including an M16 LPK part kit with auto sear. (An auto sear is a device used to turn a semi-automatic rifle into a fully automatic rifle.) Investigators also found numerous rounds of ammunition and numerous loaded .223/.556 and 9mm magazines throughout the residence.

I checked out that website, it's probably how he got on the radar in the first place lol

Me, too.  I saw that.  They probably moved from storefront to web sales.  They're probably selling off parts from guns they " lost".....

This reject can order an auto sear from M&A Parts but I can't order a  Repro Colt CAR butt stock from them? I've literally tried 5 times using two different cards a few months ago. Probably an ATF run sight with no inventory...

You don't know how an M16 operates do you?

A sear is a part that, *shock* comes with an M16 lpk. It does require a third hole but a flunkie dipshit can make that in three seconds

He didn't use a DIAS. He finished an 80%, your talking maybe an extra couple minutes of machine time and standard m16 fcg will drop in.

Some factory semi auto lowers are completely milled to M16 dimensions and just require a single hole to take over the counter M16 parts.

Some people seem to think it's difficult, but almost all semi autos can be converted to full auto with a bit of thought and 10 minutes of machine time.

I'm quite ignorant about it, I admit. But I was under the impression that auto sears are very expensive registered things. Is that not the case? I honestly don't know.

Could be AKs.  Easy enough to fold a receiver and drill the extra hole w/ the mods needed.

A registered drop in auto sear is an expensive thing, due to the Hughes amendment. It is only expensive due to the fact it is registered (and thusly, legal).

No. Registered Drop In Auto Sears, known as a DIAS or RDIAS are expensive machine gun conversions that drop into AR15 lowers and allow them to use an M16 hammer, trigger and selector for full auto.

Standard auto sears arent conversion parts, they are unregulated and you have to drill a hole and normally do some milling to an AR15 lower to make them work.

Auto connectors look like a DIAS and drop into AR15 lowers, they work with standard ar15 hammer, trigger and disconnector and make it full auto. They qork by pushing the back of the disconnector down every time the bolt closes. This causes the hammer to drop as long as the trigger is held down. AFAIK, there are no transferrable auto connectors.

Lightning links are a thin piece of metal with a paddle that interacts with an SP1 type bolt carrier. When the paddle is pushed forward it pivots the plate to the rear which pulls the disconnector back and allows the hammer to drop. There are transferable lightning links and they are one of the cheapest methods of having a legal full auto AR.

Thank you, jaq..

I was aware of the need for the third hole but not clear about the distinctions between sears.

I have had two different guys open up their rifles and show me their lightning links. Whether they were "legal" or not is none of my business and I didn't ask.

Pretty fucking cool though.

$10 from brownells

That's what a real auto sear looks like, as has been said, requires a few extra parts and a hole but the piece isn't illegal.

That is not always the case, but in this circumstance, you would have to be crazy to disagree with it. Kid was probably planning something fucky, even if not, he broke several laws and carried a gun to high school.

I have to go to school unarmed every day to get my degree. This kind of shit scares me because it's becoming more and more common.

I'll admit to that; AK's would be a shitload easier. As I said, wild speculation.

That said, anyone who is halfway skilled with machine tools can build a machinegun in just a few hours. It's honestly pretty silly to expect otherwise.
