One of the girl's friends interceded and jumped in front of the teen to protect her, but she quickly was backed into the rear of the classroom as well, said Jan Jorgensen, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
From what the TV news says about this part, apparently this young woman was much more a part of preventing the little bastard from knifing his intended victim than the sheriff (and apparently the Times/P-I) would like to admit.
The cop himself said it took him a while to figure out what was going on, even after he got into the classroom. He sounded like a complete moron.
