I have to purge an assembly chamber with Argon gas (see the METEORITES thread for the application).

I have 0 experience with gas cylinders, so I don't know what my options are for the simple task.

Should I just buy a small tank from Harbor Freight and have it filled, or am I better off just doing a rental of some sort?

Will CFR 49 or some other regulation prevent me from just throwing the tank in my car and taking it home?

What type of fittings or hoses will I absolutely need to just get the gas into the chamber?

This will be 1 small tank used maybe 3 or 4 times over a few months, so it is not a high use situation.

Call up your local welding supply place. They should be able to drop off a rental tank for you.

ETA, you could probable also rent a set of welding torches and use those regs and valves to do what you need.

Just buy a 20 CU FT and a valve from a welding supply.

A trip to a good welding supply store should have you set up.  They won't be the cheapest but they will know their business better than harbor freight and will get you set up with 100% argon and not a gas blend.

How big is the purge box and how pure does it have to be?  By pure I mean do you run a magnahelic gauge or O2 sensor or something?  If its something small and portable, I'd just take it to any local welder that TIG welds and see if they could purge it for you.

I do not have to go that crazy, I just need to get argon into something similar to a sealed media blast chamber.

It looks like I will just go to a welding supply place and get set up with them.  I wasn't sure if I was missing a better option.
