We have been to Mexico and The Bahamas. So those are out.
We were thinking something like Dominican Republic or St.Lucia, just because we have heard good things about them. Any pros or cons to these? Or better places you have been to? |
|
Kauai is nice this time of year but it's not "exotic". Phuket Thailand is pretty nice.
|
|
Not much going on outside the resort in the DR. We did Costa Rica, it was nice but our resort's closed or renovated or something by now.
|

Also not exotic, but my wife and I spent about a week in Kona, HI this August for our 10 yr anniversary. It was a blast and we loved every minute of it. There's a lot to see and do on the island. We spent one day (12 hrs) driving around the entire island: saw the volcano and attractions, drove through Hilo, went to a waterfall park, stopped and had some fresh pineapple/coconut/passion fruit. Go snorkeling, boogie boarding, and lay on the beach. The zip line was the best experience. Tons of good food, luaus, etc. We splurged a little more at the last second (at the rental counter) and went with a convertible...SO worth it! Spent the whole week driving with the top down, even through the rainy spots. We enjoyed it way more than we had expected.
BTW, congrats!

DR is nice but one of those places you are stuck at the resort the whole time. If you do venture from the resort stick to the few touristy areas. Try one of the other islands or something like Costa Rica or Belize.

You may want to tell us your budget before getting recommendations.
We went to the Four Seasons on Nevis. It was fantastic and I would recommend it. But it was pricey. |

Maybe $10,000 max for both of us. I would like to keep it under that though.

Sandal's Royal Carribbean in Jamaica.
Slower pace resort that still has the party available, it's just not shoved down your throats the whole time. It's cost effective if you don't need a personal butler But really, its an excellent resort, every single staff member from maid on up were very friendly, and I had zero security concern once on resort. Wonderful snorkeling area, dive sites, and everything else. Food was outstanding, they have a few different upscale dinner choices plus easier low key places too. I loved not having to worry about anything but getting to and from the airport at home, everything else they take care of. Wonderful change of pace after a stressful wedding. My wife and I loved it. And unlike other all inclusive resorts, the drinks were strong, strong enough that I asked for my early ones to be light haha. |
|
Thanks guys! Keep em coming! $10,000 might be a little high even I really don't even know
What one of these kind of things cost. Now That I think of it Cancun and the Bahamas was like $3-4000 a couple. |

Turks and Caicos. Enjoy!

Heading to st Lucia at the end of January. Good friends have been too (sandals) and they say it's pretty awesome. Will let you know after I experience it.

We are going to the Excellence resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Great reviews and ratings. Off the beaten path. All inclusive including the nicer restaurants. Flights were cheap and the resort is priced very nicely. One of my fiances co-workers said that the beaches between Punta Cana and St. lucia were the same and you did not need a full day of travel to get to the DR vs St Lucia. We got an ocean view, swim up, jr suite for 8 nights $4900 |

Moorea. The next largest Island in Tahiti. It's nice without the premium of Bora Bora. We stayed at Sofitel Ia Ora for our honeymoon.

I, as well as several coworkers, have taken vacations to resorts in Puerto Plata. There are several nice resorts there.
Cheap Caribbean is a good place to look. |

Best experience of my life. Family and friends partied for days. Plus you can you use the other Sandals resorts for no extra charge. I'll add, this was not my first Sandals stay, but my favorite one to stay at. |

Total was $3200 including airfare and without pinching pennies but our honeymoon on Maui was close your budget. If you want exotic look into Bluefield Villas in Jamacia, assuming your airfare is less than $500 per person it would give you what you're looking for. A couple of years ago the wife and I went to Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda and liked it but damn it was pricey. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

cairns austraila.
you can do day trips out to the great barrier reef, white water rafting, zoo where you can hold a koala, pet a walaby and kangaroo, butterfly enclosure, rain forest day trip, crocodile farm, and seems like there was a dam or gorge thing we did too. if you scuba dive they have live aboards there too. if you must stay closer to home, beleze AC was nice. but we mostly scuba dive. did a day trip to the cave rivers on the main land. that was nice too. |

we went to Cebu island in the Philippines for our first anniversary, 10days of living like royalty and spent less than $5,000 including airfare. The resort had a shooting range that included a few machine gun rentals (uzi, m16, galil and an AK) and the bell boy tried to sell me a M16 for $100, it was hard to say no lol
