Obama says you definitely are better off than you were when he took office. Do you agree?

Say why or why not.

Yes.

ETA:

22 - Finishing up college, still living at my moms house.
28 - Working a full time job with benefits for me and my wife, living in the house I bought 3 years ago.

Vehicles are paid for, house is paid for, make more money at my job, 401k exponentially larger, have kids now, married and have more guns.

I would be in a similar or better position with a republican president. I've had 6 years to improve myself, of course I'm in a better position.

I am, in SPITE of the Obama administration. It's been a lot of hard work, but I've improved things. Not everything is about money. Most of my "improvement" has been lessons in life that I will continue to reap the benefit of throughout my life rather than financial gains that can be taken at a whim/bad luck.

I've learned how to deal with hardship, how to life frugally, and how to enjoy my life regardless of the income level I have. It's harder when you make less money, but it's not impossible. As a consequence, stuff doesn't own me, nor does the materialistic addiction that plagues most Americans these days.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:16:40 AM EST
I'm making almost $7 more than I was back then, have the same healthcare/benefits, etc. and yet I bring home around the same amount of money.

I am worse by far.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:17:41 AM EST
Oh my god, SO much better off.

6 years ago we were living in a trailer and up to our eyeballs in debt.

Since then, we have worked hard, earned what we have now, and have paid every medical bill with our own money.

So.. fuck you Obama. We're better off because we did what America was built on - we worked hard because we wanted a better life.

Yes, but not thanks to the current administration. I am paying A LOT more in taxes and not getting anything more than I did for it 6 years ago...
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:19:11 AM EST
I am but it's not because of him.

Yes, but not because of Obama. I'm better off because I pulled my head out of my ass.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:19:51 AM EST
Im doing better but its from working my ass off. FBHO.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:20:53 AM EST
Despite the current administration, not because of it.

About the same.

6 years ago I got married......now I'm getting divorced

So yea....I am

ETA: still some sad days tho
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:22:35 AM EST
Oh, hell yes.
16,000 hours work has some positive effect.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:22:40 AM EST
Yes, but it is in SPITE of Obama, not because of him.

I finally have a management team that appreciates me at work. In a time of full scale layoffs, they have told me I will not go.
They also refused a lower level mgrs request that I become part of her team. I work directly for the VP.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:22:49 AM EST
I'm doing a little better, or the same. But it has taken work, sacrifice, and thinking out side the box to stay afloat or even get a little ahead.

No one is doing better that I know of because of the kenyan. I know I am not doing better because of any of the shit he's done.

Better off financially? No. My son is in his senior year and driving, so my insurance and gas bills are up. My daughter is about to turn 12 and plays competitive soccer, so the dues from soccer, the cost of her increasingly honed fashion sense and the costs of travelling to tournaments have drained more fundage from our bank accounts.
Also my son turned 17 last November, so we lost the child tax credit for him, which made our income tax go up.
None of that is related to the Obama administration though.
But our medical expenses are up due to the changes to our policy through my wife's work, which are mostly Obama's fault.
OTOH, personally things are going great.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:23:07 AM EST
Yes, but because of my own hard work. Doesn't have a damn thing to do with Obama.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:23:15 AM EST
Sorta, same.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:23:16 AM EST
Me?

Well, I've eliminated all of my debt, resolved the situation with my house and I finally have some money saved.

I'm making less money, but that's not his fault, since I chose to quit contracting and took a job as a full time employee.

I do feel like I we are not as safe from terrorists and race relations are definitely worse off. The government is spying on us a lot more, but that program was started under W. Plus there's the whole immigration and ebola things, but those honestly haven't impacted me yet.

The one thing that I think has the greatest potential to fuck me is Obamacare, but I haven't felt the impact of that yet either.

So, at the moment I would have to say I am about even.

Same for me.

I was fresh outta the Army with no plan 6 years ago. Took me awhile to get back on track but here I am 6 years later with a family and career I love.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:24:46 AM EST
yeah, because I had kids and worked my way up to support my family...

no because he waived his fucky magic hand... YOU DIDNT BUILD THAT!!!
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:24:57 AM EST
Well, I'm 22, have a job making decent money for my age, and I just graduated college.

So, really, regardless of if it's because of him or not, yes, I am.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:25:45 AM EST
Yes

but no thanks to Obama... despite him, and I would be Much better off if Bush were still here.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:25:53 AM EST
Yes. I have been working hard.

My wages have increased yes, but not at the same pace as my taxes,insurance,food,gas,utilities,etc...........
The interest rates on all interest bearing accounts i have are much lower than 6 years ago, so there's that

I make about half the money and have higher bills, so in that context, fuck no.

ETA: INRE:POTUS, defense cutbacks suck.

On the other hand, in that time I've been blessed wuth another beautiful child and spend more time at home. All in how you look at it I reckon.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:31:01 AM EST
Dramatically worse, but I'm not going to whine about it here or blame the president for it.
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:31:23 AM EST
I absolutely am, but that's because 6 years ago I was 23 and have advanced myself through working hard - not because of anything the government did.

No. Food and energy prices are up, in some cases, way up.

The industry I am in is still tight after the real estate crash in 2008. No raises, little prospect of new business or improvement.

Taxes are higher across the board, and health care costs (even company paid) is up about 500% from 2008.

I have however, lost my tolerance for bullshit political views from former friends, and cut loose people who need to be shown some consequences of their actions. Which is sort of liberating in a way...

Yes. Housing market is doing well in my AO (luck), and I busted my butt and got my professional license (earned it).
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:38:04 AM EST
Oh yeah but I have completed two of my three degrees in that time.

Yes:

Graduated school and worked hard. Car, Married, House in that order.
Just offered my boss' job Monday. Sitting at my new desk during lunch posting this.

Texas is great. I don't think I would have had the same opportunities elsewhere (i.e. New England)

This, especially the part in red, contributes to my 'no' vote. We only had one year you could consider BAD, but since then it's just been treading water. Treading water when bills are increasing = worse off in my book.

Financially, yes, because I am smart with my money.

Freedom-wise, no, because government is not smart with my freedoms.

Yes, I am better off, in spite of FBHO, not because of him or any of his minions in any way. I'd probably be doing even better if it weren't for him. I am paying quite a bit more now in taxes though.

FBHO

This. I'm better off in whole, but damn my business could be doing better. I just started earlier this year and it was solid for a good bit, but I haven't sold anything in the last two months. Its eating my savings and my fiancee is ready to give up on it
Link Posted: 10/2/2014 11:53:09 AM EST
Due to a number of anticipated changes in the law it was to my benefit to close part of my business and sell before it took place. Made a lot of money but many people lost jobs. Now I sit around consulting for even bigger bucks to assist other companies avoid these new laws.

I'm better off than a year ago. Not because of Obama though. I switched from a salary job to hourly and now get paid for all my OT. Not crazy about the new job but it pays better and now I can put some money in the bank. Still looking for a day time job again though as I work second shift.

Yes, despite Obama and the government.

in the last 6 years I have had three pay raises. I am at the low end of the pay scale, pay raises are given every year on your hire date or until maxed. Due to a weak a economy pay raises have not been given.
