...Walk Softly, But Carry
A silent majority of California gun owners is caught in the cross-fire of extremists. Maybe it's time to hear from those who are . . . armed and anonymous.

.  Not insurmountable?  OK then, what can I do in the PRK to allow me to buy an AR15 for target practice?

The United States is still a wonderful place to live in and both New York and California have their own different virtues. However, New Yorker's have voted in Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton to represent them. So, how did that happen?

I live in California and have a CCW. I would like to live in the West but in a more gun-friendly, less populated state myself, but don't see that happening for a while. With some changes in the political landscape here, the prospects for easing up some gun restrictions is possible. A Republican Governor is a start and the changes in the general mood after Sept. 11 2001 might contribute to a better legislative agenda for gun rights. I try to be hopeful and contribute where I can without being outrageous or an  extremist. I'm just fortunate not to have Hilary or Chuck as my representatives. Instead I've got Boxer and Feinstein. Go figure.

Extremisim in the pursuit of liberty is no vice.

Depends who's asking the question. I don't consider myself one. But since politicians like to create laws to make it seem like they're doing something, tomorrow I might be...

Oh, did I mention that Gov. Gray Davis is the leader of the Caliban?

Caliban- the ruling regime in California state goverernment comprised of mostly liberal idealogues who ban everything they consider dangerous or offensive to their emotional state of well-being with no regard to constitutional freedoms or common sense.

Yes, indeed, but just let friendly California-native Fritz Durst, fifth generation farmer, get nailed on some sort of legal technicality over any of those long guns and just see how quickly he'll come running to us!

These Californians are happy thinking others are being disarmed, you know, the 'bad guys', and it would never occur to them that in the mind of their state government, they may be the bad guys!

Yeah, you won't have to pull those long guns from Fritz Durst's 'cold dead hands' because he'll most likely think it's his civic duty to turn them in when requested by the authorities.

Aren't you glad the American Revolution occurred more than 225 years ago? We simply no longer have the spirit to do it now. Well, most of them don't, at any rate.

"One out of every three adults owns firearms in California, a 1999 Los Angeles Times survey found. About 75% are white and 60% are male. Republicans are no more likely than Democrats to be armed. Nearly half have no more than a high school education."

Typical republicratism.

I'm a member of "The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" that caused "Slick Willie" to have sex with that woman Monica.....

Hell I'm probably an extremist too.

I think the forum members should take up a collection, buy a few states and move in!! Oh yea, and later secede from the Union.

Am I an extremist.  Hmmm, let me think about that.

Actually, I think that I have moderated my views in the last 30 years.  Just a tiny bit of mellowing in my old age.

Now don't get me wrong.  I am still a card carrying charter memebr of the vast rightwing conspiracy... It's just that on a linear scale of say 100 yards from left to right, I have moved maybe 6 inches to the left from my position - more like the coalecsing of thought on certain issues.

My problem is that where I started actually was a lot closer to the middle - way back when.   but the left has managed to shift the spectrum so that I now appear to be way off to the right!

But that's ok, I proud to stand in one spot and not waver.

ONe last comment, this first guy in the article went to UCDavis?  Well, looking at his age, it's right about the time the liberals were starting to take over big time in the colleges, and Davis is second only to Berkely (being right next door, almost) in it's liberal outlook.

So disgusted with the LA Times, that IDIOT Farmer and the liberal reporter that I quit after the first paragraph.

Count me in as a lock-stepped NRA extremist.

Grow up and be a man for God's sake. I hope the next ban that hits this socialist state deprives you of your TRACTOR.

the licensing and periodic testing of older owners of firearms.

How old would that be? Where did that come from? Is that some Kali thing?

Now folks let me say that now that I'm pushing 60 but I would really like to know if my "fantasy" thought of having several adjoining states where the laws have been constructed to allow anyone who wants to own a AW, have a CCW, just about anything short of a Howitzer, is allowed to do so after they pass the proper training. Where, self defense is a right not a privilige, that if you don't work you don't eat, where people who commit murder die and so on and so. Extremist!! Guilty.

Would someone in Kali find the woman who said that somebody could probably take her gun from her, and explain to her what that little bent piece of metal surrounded by a metal loop on her gun is for (and while your at it get her a gun chambered for a decent self defense round).

"...They can talk about trajectory, and they explain why your chances of nailing a coyote at 250 yards are better when you use a .243-caliber rifle with a 110-grain bullet instead of a .223 with a 55-grain slug..."

Huh?

I wouldn't wipe my ass with the LA Times.
