Has the good life made us too soft, too spoiled and too selfish?

Yes. Traveling to a developing country will open your eyes to the reality that a lot of people live everyday. We are truly blessed in this country.

This.

There are many in this country that should go abroad to see what it is like elsewhere. It seems as though there are few who appreciate being a U.S. citizen.

I believe so. Just take away one everyday convenience and see how miserable the majority of us become.

One really doesn't even have to do that. Just go to a home of a single parent-multi child that's trying to get by without help from the government –– yes, they exist. A home where one has to decide to either pay rent or buy milk. A home where electricity is always in threat of being cut off because gas for the car was more important so someone could get to work. A home where kids go to bed without a parent because he/she is working the late shift for the overtime/extra tips. A home without the internet or subscription TV.

The vast majority if America is spoiled, even most of the poor.

I am not sure "Spoiled' is the right word and definition, but I see where you're getting at, so YES !
