A few years ago I had a G30 .45 Cal Glock. I loved it but had to sell it. Now I want another but see that times have changed and there are other folks making poly pistols nowadays. Is Glock still the top dog as far as quality goes?

Yes.

Give me a USP 45 or a KZ45 over any Glock.... "still the best?"........they never were the best in my opinion....they are arguably in the top three, depending on who you talk too. It comes down to many, many personal factors that yahoos on a gunboard, like me, can't possibly answer for you.

LOL !! [LOL] You're kidding right ?? KABOOM !!!

Well I've seen the SW/Walther P99 series refered to as what glock was ment to be, and the XD's are ratehr well liked it seems. I don't like glocks, but the XD has been growing on me as well as the SW gun. I've shot them all and the EX felt better in the hand while shooting than the others the SW/Walther was second. The grip angle on the glock is one of the things I don't like about the glock.

Stock Glock's Rock. There is nothing better.

Another vote for the USP.

The XD looks pretty solid.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 12:02:54 PM EDT
I like 1911s and Sigs. However my Glock 17 I believe is the most rugged 'plastic'pistol.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 12:06:35 PM EDT
He said the best "Plastic pistol" referring only to Polymer framed pistols. I don't think they have much competition. We'll see how the XDs go but once they swap out the polymer sights for metal they'll be the best I think. We'll have to see how the XDs hold up though.

Yeah, I guess not: H&K USP line of guns to include the Tactical and SOCOM {Mk23} Swith and Wesson SW99's as well as the Walther P99's Springfield XD's Wilson Combat KZ45's Nope, no competition at all. [rolleyes] Get real.

If you had a Glock 30 and you liked it, get the same gun again. I am about to buy a Glock 30 myself. I have a Glock 21 and I like it a lot. It NEVER jams (unlike my Kimber 1911) and I can completely beat the shit out of it and not worry about it. I don't like the grip safety on the XD and I haven't seen the S & W one yet.

I wouldn't own a Grock even if they gave foot massages and blow jobs. My USP45 is my bedside gun. My P99 is my primary carry. Nuf said.

Yeah I appoligize Shivan, I really shouldn't be talking about such matters I did not realize that the USP Tacticals were polymer framed handguns. But I haven't heard too many positives about the Smith and Wessons or Walthers, they don't seem to have anything that sets them apart like the reliability/durability/simplicity of the Glocks. The USPs on the other hand..... Again I appoligize, you've put me in my place.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 12:20:04 PM EDT
I don't really care for polymer pistols but the Sig Pro, Walther P99, and HK USP are all superior to Glocks IMHO.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 12:20:28 PM EDT
I won't say Glock is the best plastic pistol, but I would trust my life with my Glock 19. Both blind Glock-haters and Glockaholics have problem. Go to a gunshop, handle one and decide it for yourself.

Glocks are poorly made, mass produced crap that has benefited from a massive factory cover-up of years of well documented problems. It seems the more you spend on marketing, the more it pays off as most people believe bought and paid for magazine 'articles' and paid for 'reviews'. http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/problems.html Check this site out. If you can still claim they are quality or well made after reading this factual site, then you have other issues. :D

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=4&t=6621 That thread speaks for itself [;)] And this isn't even the 9mm versions, so no one can state that they were designed around the round.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 12:40:56 PM EDT
I personally like the P99 the most myself. Coming in at a close second is the USP .45 (Tactical preferrably).

Well, when HK makes a 10mm, I may get one. You can read crap about any handgun, But do you know anyone who has actually had a problem with one? I don't own a glock, (Beretta 92 and a Ruger p-85). I will own a glock 10mm soon, with zero reservations when it shows me it can pass my tests. The same as every other carry pistol I have Including my kel-tec p-32. TXLEWIS

it took me about 2 months to find a green frame 9mm.....i know Quantico Arms got some in about mid Nov.....not sure if they still have any or not
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 2:53:13 PM EDT
glock in anything other than 9mm is a handgrenade. my g30 kb'd and i have seen 2 other .45 glocks do the same. mike
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 3:01:19 PM EDT
Love my Glocks, and my HK's, have not owned a XD. I think the Glock may be one of the most durable( in 9mm), and next to the XD one of the ugliest guns around. Would I trust a Glock in a bad spot? Yes. Do I carry a Glock? Nope, a Wilson 1911 Protector.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 4:41:33 PM EDT
Why bother with anything other than glock? Holsters, Mags, Parts, etc. are all common and such! All other pistols should be banned!
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 4:47:49 PM EDT
If you follow directions, Glocks rock.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 4:48:41 PM EDT
I don't like them. If you made me I would pick a Walther P99. Maybe an HK. I've never fondled an HK.

My vote goes to the USP Compact. Mmmmm, feels almost as good as a nice Kimber CDP. [:D] I'd buy a Glock in 9mm for the fun of it, and maybe a G21. I've never fired anything else in .45ACP, but the G21 I did fire had less preceived recoil than my Beretta M96 (which I'm also very fond of). If I had the money, though, it would go to HK for another .40 or a .45. At least I can ride high-thumb with the USP. [):)]
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 6:07:07 PM EDT
I carry a USP .40 5 days a week at work, I have a P-99, a SIG 226 and today I took my brand spankin' new XD357 to the range...and am in love with it...

Another vote for SIG Pro
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 6:30:50 PM EDT
One of the gun rags did a "shoot out" using the Glock 17 I think, and a Springfield XD. It was a virtual wash. I'll take the Springfield, thank you. Especially when it comes out in the 45.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 6:36:27 PM EDT
Thanks for the input guys. If I read your posts right I get some still like Glocks and some don't. There may be better poly pistols sold but none are much better than Glocks if you take care of your Glock and don't do dumb things with it like fire 10mm +P loads or lead tipped rounds. Thanks for your opinions.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 7:26:54 PM EDT
Instead of just focusing on the "brand", why not narrow down according to the type of features you are looking for? We know you want a polymer-framed, but what about trigger/firing mechanism, safety/decocker? If you like straight DA/SA, then SIG is a good option. If you like DA with no safety, then Glock might be a good choice. If you like safety button/lever, you might try H&K or S&W. I haven't found any reason to believe that any of the above mentioned choices would be *significantly* better than the others, based on straight up reliability, accuracy, durability. Everyone has their preferences, some people just fit better with Glock, others with SIG, etc. Although, I think it can be objectively stated that the best choice would be SIG ;)
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 7:34:04 PM EDT
Hk USP beats 'em all. Of course, I have large hands, someone with smaller hands may prefer an XD or P99. Maybe even a Sig. I have shot an XD40, and consider it a superb pistol, but the grip doesn't quite fill my hand. I personally don't like Glocks. Just my .02 Gribble

You say HK USP beats 'em all, but I'm assuming you are just referring to your own personal preference. I mean, are you trying to say that there is some objective reason why HK is superior to the other choices, or that the other choices are inferior to HK?

YES They designed it, they introduced it, why go else where? As the old saying goes Why fool with the rest when you have the best?
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 9:01:59 PM EDT
Yes, don't be fooled the XD is just a Glock with a grip-safety. However, I really want a P99 since it fits like a glove.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 9:22:51 PM EDT
G30 has been regarded as the "ultimate glock" by many forums and people.. you've picked one of the best to consider. I have one and love it. I also have a SIG 228 and have shot many other polymer pistols. Each pistol is unique. You need to express more of what you want out of this gun.. as well as what you already have in order to get the best responses.
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 10:13:28 PM EDT
I have never liked plastic guns, but i love my Briley SVI,...doesnt make sense does it? Not really even close to being the same thing but anyway. I dont like them for personal taste reasons but I do have experience with them. I think that both the Walther P99 and Glocks are fine weapons. In my experience, both have had good reliability, OK accuracy, and well, thats about it. The P99 fits my 1911 spoiled hand very well (backstrap interchange) but the glock feels just plain wrong in my hand (Glock 17, 23, and 30). The P99's trigger was shit though. Other than that i would certainly count on either when it came down to it. The way i look at it is these guns are just tools, really nothing pretty or pizazz about them. S&W has taken over Walther so i would expect quality to be pretty reasonable in the new guns. I have never really like Springfield as far as quality goes but i only have experience with their 1911's. Glock I know WAS of quality but i have heard of problems lately in that dept. HK has always been a top notch company when it comes to handguns IMO. All this aside, get the damn Glock 30! Thats all that my father will carry pretty much and he has plenty to choose from!
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 11:00:35 PM EDT
It depends on if you want to spend your money with a company that supports ballistic fingerprinting.
Link Posted: 12/8/2003 2:22:08 AM EDT
I love my P99 in 40cal. Never had a jam or malfunction. I have never shot an XD but they feel nice. Even HK, in their new pistol is copying the walther grip. My P99 trigger is 1000x better than any glock trigger and alloys an instant re-strike which glock or XD cant do. SorryOciffer
