Two meplats walk onto a range.

The first meplat turns to the other one and says, "You can't hit shit, you're all fucked up."

The other meplat get his feelings hurt and says, "I know you are, but what am I?"

I have a 1/4 case of PMC Bronze 145 gr. that shoots like too.  Shot it through 4 different guns now with the same results.

50 yards?

Even for cheap ammo, that's fucking terrible.  Like, "wrong bullet diameter" terrible.

I tried it alongside some .308 Gold medal match rounds

The GMM loads were giving me dime sized 5 round groups @ 100.

The ZQ opened things up to about 2.5 inches.

yeah, that ZQ ammo is crap.  actually, saying its crap is giving it to much credit.  SPECIALLY for any precision work.  and by precision, i mean you are trying to hit the broad side of a barn.

Not knowing the history of OP and his gun, my guess is that there's something wrong other than ammo.

If using scope, check to make sure your scope rings are tight (but not TOO tight, yes that is possible) around the scope body, your scope rings are locked tightly onto the scope base, and your scope base is locked tightly onto the upper receiver.

Check your muzzle device to make sure it is locked down tight and does not move at all.

Remove your muzzle device to inspect the crown for chips or dings.

Finally, check to see if there is a gap between the muzzle and the interior "back wall" of the muzzle device, effectively creating a baffle.  A Yankee Hill flash suppressor on my A2 HBAR caused that to happen to me.  Replacing it with a Smith Enterprise Vortex flash suppressor whose insides were snug against the muzzle cut my groups from 3 MOA to .5 MOA.

Seriously.... maybe pull a bullet from a few rounds, compare bullet diameters/weights and charge weights?

PMC bronze has treated me fairly well in everything but the .308 I've tried (in 145 gr.).

I really like PMC XTAC 5.56 in either 55 or 62 gr LAP.  Wolf Gold .223 too.

That is exactly how it shot out of my 716, kept checking scope and base.
Switched to Federal 168 grain and a nice cloverleaf @100.
Maybe they have good batches and shit batches?

Yeah, but the brass is good. And the bullets, if you download it. The issue is a shittily inconsistent powder charge. I HAVE gotten a lot that shot very well, then another lot that was shotgun-pattern accurate.

The accuracy of factory ammo, whatever the brand, is an 'accuracy crap-shoot'.

Given the fact that each and every rifle has it's own unique barrel harmonics, finding factory ammunition that shoots well through it is a 'hit or miss' proposition. Many times high-end ammo shoots no better than cheap ammo. It depends entirely on how well it meshes with the individual weapon's barrel harmonics.

OP, that same factory load that shoots so badly in one rifle may shoot much better in a different rifle. The charge weight may be a better match to the harmonic sweet-spot of one rifle as opposed to the other.

In reality, the only way to maximize accuracy of a given rifle is to match the charge weight to that individual barrel's harmonics profile. Pushing a projectile with good 'flight dynamics' is also a contributing factor.

If you want to tighten your groups, you're going to need to reload and run ladder tests on each weapon you own. What works well in one rifle may be barely acceptable in another identical rifle because they each have their individual harmonic profile.

I was shooting a SMLE with (Dot) N-D-N made ammo.  6-8" groups at 100 yds.  Then I switched to some commercial stuff and suddenly the group shrank to 2".

Not joking at all, shit shoots as good as any other factory ammo that I've bought, bought a case from bulk ammo back at the beginning of the year and it shoots as good or better than any other range ammo I've tried... maybe I got a lucky batch but I'm not joking...
