The family and I were going to drive to St. Joseph, MO. Then I saw a story on nightly news about how they are expecting 500k+ in the town of 80k for a little over 2 minutes worth of view. We decided not to go to Missouri.
Iowa will have 90% eclipse so that's good enough. |

I'm leaving this Saturday actually and heading to the Midwest. I figure rural Wyoming / Nebraska should be about as quiet as you can get for this. I had initially planned on going to Oregon, but I'm so glad I deep 6'd that idea because its going to be a shit show down there.

I'll see 94% obstruction without leaving the house, that's good enough for me.
Yeah, I know. I'm a boring old fart...but this boring old fart won't be the one sitting in a monstrous traffic jam for hours on end. |

Every hotel in the area is booked. We're right on the path and it is supposed to be right when it is the fullest.

I'm in the 99.9% zone. May drive another 20 minutes south to be in 100%.

Everyone is going to see it. Some places it just will not be a 100% eclipse. Google Your town, Your state 2017 eclipse. We will be out on the boat watching our 76% eclipse. Its just fine with us.

I'm just going to wait for the 2024 eclipse that passes over NY. It'll be a shitshow as well but I have family that lives in the path of totality and it's much closer to home.

Walk out in the back yard, watch the total eclipse then go back inside because it's too damn hot. Relax, eat dinner then go to bed.

As long as 441 from N FL to TN is clear Sunday I don't care what happens anywhere else.

I'll be watching it from the upper end of my pasture which borders the National Forest.
Local gov is predicting a massive clusterfuck here in Jackson Hole. |

Yes, but please don't underestimate the shit show its going to be. Its being called the single largest human migration ever, in a single day......... View Quote IIRC one went over my area when i was 10 to 12 years old I thought it was cool as shit, but i was into that kinda shit. And i still am into that kinda shit. But honeslty outside of this site id assume its going to just be a regular day for most people. |

I'm leaving Sunday, going through Utah to my buddies place in Victor Idaho. I'm camping in my truck up there. I expected it to be a bit rough salt lake City and North.

There's about 120,000 square miles in which you can see this eclipse. I don't see how there's going to be any problem. Just don't see it in a population center.
|
|
Wildfires in the Mt. Hood wilderness are causing problems with that here. Lots of people were expecting to be in the area to see it, but the fires are changing those plans.
I won't be traveling to see it anyway. I'd have to go about two hours north (to see the full effect), get there early in the morning, and stand among millions of other people there to see it. And I think it's supposed to last less than two minutes. Not worth the trouble. http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2017/08/fires_turn_thousands_of_acres.html ![]() |

I don't have to travel, but the people I see talking about the crowds should consider smaller towns and the surrounding areas.

Why is this such a big deal? It'd be cool to see but im not driving 700 miles and paying hundreds for s hotel room to watch an eclipse for a few minutes.
I dont get the hysteria over it. |

If you want to know if your area is going to be fucked, call a few local hotels near you or the area you plan to be, if they laugh at you, then you know it's gonna be a shit show.
Any of you guys like me that can just walk outside and see it for 100% need to think about getting all your shit that need maybe that Saturday and just chill through Tuesday. |

I'm thinking about flying the chopper North about an hour to catch it, would be spending a hell of a lot of money for just two minutes, but its once in a lifetime right?
