Somehow, a copy of the DVD (which has been available in England for a while) made it's way onto my computer. My buddy mike came over and watched it and partially wrote/partially copied a review of it onto his blog. You'll love the comments at the end:

www.slushyweb.com/article/10/shaun-of-the-dead

(here's the text snip):

Saw it today…actually yesterday, with a buddy after work. I gotta say right up front that its a pretty hysterical movie. Shaun of the Dead is probably best described as a horror/comedy or better yet (as I see on the movie’s website ), a romantic comedy…. with zombies.

Shaun, an electronics store clerk in London is in a rut. His whole life mostly consists of, working, playing video games, and evenings out at the local pub, The Winchester. He gets dumped by his girlfriend because she believes him to be lazy and not going anywhere with his life. Shaun still lives with his longtime best friend Ed, who is best described as a slob. Day in, day out, nothing seems to change. Well…except for the zombies. Eventually the whole city is over-run with zombies and Shaun and Ed set out on an epic quest to save Shaun’s family and ex-girlfriend. The whole adventure climaxes with a last stand at their sacred bar, tuning The Winchester pub into an iconic symbol similar to The Alamo.

The slap-stick antics, english dialogue, and situational humor had me laughing on many occasions. The movie has apparently been available in Europe on DVD for some time now, but was just released in the states recently. I have read that fans of BBC’s The Office , will recognize certain characters due to some cameo appearances. Good movie for a good laugh. Watch it.

Joe: They can’t make zombies movies in the states anymore.
Mike: Why not?
Joe: Because everyone knows that all Americans own guns and we’d just be able to kill all the zombies ourselves. There wouldn’t be a challenge to it.
Mike: Oh…good point.

It's very very good, go and see it immediately, plenty of Hot HK Action in the final moments too.

I dont think there's anyhting in it you wont get allthough the doppelganger scene works best if you've seen the TV shows that these actors come from, but you'll see.

So, in nice socialist disarmed britain, what would you guys suggest for the inevitable zombie invasion? Cricket bats or Baseball bats? I think the greater striking surface of the cricket bat is more effective, but I open it to the floor.

Saw it last month (UseNet is a good thing ). Funny as hell, I liked it so much I'll most likely go see it again in the theater.

Thought I would bump this up in hopes of getting some more feedback about this flick.

I think it looks kind of dumb in a really good way. I saw Billy Madison and Dumb & Dumber in the movies, and those were probably equally mindless and immature in their humor... This one at least looks good if for no other reason than because it's got zombies... which as we all know is the bestest kind of movie in the world because it's like a theatrical survival guide.

Anywho... might sees it tomorrow (actually tonight)... I'll post a review if I do.
