About 5 years ago, you could buy a 100 round box of 9mm WWB from Walmart for $13.

Then it pretty much disappeared from the store shelves and you'd be lucky to find a 50 round box of 9mm for under $15.

Well, I just got an email from AIM that has 50 round boxes of new 9mm ammo for $9.95. (no I don't work for them)

Things are looking up!

100 rounds @ 13.00 = .13/ round

50 rounds @ 9.95 = .1995/ round

I want 2005 back!

When 100 WWB broke 10 bucks I began to reload.

I buy at least a box of 9 a week.

Last year when I started, Federal 9 was $9.47, it's now $12.47. I've since switched to buying their boxes of Tula for $9 a box

WWB here is $15.

Any calibre I want has gone up around here.  Demand bubble has not popped yet and materials costs have gone up.  Short of electing Ron Paul President with GOP majorities the demand bubble is not popping anytime soon.

I was just thinking the other day I wonder when ammo prices will start to fall.   They are falling by a few bucks here and there, but to get to the price of old they have to fall by half price.

What I didn't understand was how 22lr stayed pretty low when all the others went high and then about 6-8 months ago, When every other caliber has came back down, jumps up dramatically from like $14 to $19. Still a good price, but I wish it were a little cheaper.

I work at Academy part time, and while the price of ammo reamains high. We have been lowering the prices (On average by a couple of dollars) on alot of pistol caliber ammuntion lately.

We have even began to receive new Federal loads (In .223 & .40 in particular) that are priced below the other brands.

That was a REALLY GOOD deal back then and it wasn't widely available for a long periods of time, though.  The South African lasted a while at that price... but even it didnt last forever.

11 to 14 cents per round for M193 was the golden age... it was just a really good deal for many years.

I remember back in the late 80's and early 90's - ammo was more expensive, especially 9mm.  It GOT cheap... and a lot of import surplus helped certain calibers.
However, I will say - over the past two years, ammo prices have been on a downward trend.  The norm for good .223 was ~$350 per K, and now there are many options available under $300/K.  That IMI 1200 round wideners deal is sweet... I am tempted to stock up again but I think I will hod off a while and see what this crazy market does.

9MM has been dropping - I watch prices very closely.  However, if you are smart about it - save up - and buy the sales or dips - you come out way ahead.  Right before 9mm pricess went up I bought 9k at Academy and Walmart, for $8/50.  Sure - that stung a bit because I used to buy CCI for under $4/50.  But it is what it is... and I knew that was as good as I was going to find.  That carried me several years, until Grafs had a big sale, and you could get it delivered for less than $9/50 shipped, so I stocked up again.

There are many options out there in 9mm for under $10/50 - which shows the general price is coming down.  Ammo is getting cheaper.  Cheaper than 2000-2003?  No.  But certainly cheaper than its been over the past two years.

.22LR prices went up 50%-60%.  I dont consider that "stayed low".

I remember back in 04 or 05 that Q3131 was 3.99 a box of 20,and WWB 9mm FMJ was4.99 a box of 50 at Acadamy. That was the year I started shooting on a regular basis, about 3-4 times a month. I wish that I had kept more ammo or at least stocked a bunch more.

ETA: Also, when I bought my Springer 1911 from Acadamy in '05,WWB .45 was like 10 dollars a box of 50.

I checked Fred Meyers today. They had 525 round federal bulk packs of .22 for $25. A couple months ago it was 18.99.

9mm ammo was averaging 15-16 dollars for a box of 50.

Anyone know what the Wallyworld 22 prices are nowadays? I haven't been there for awhile, and I've been burning through my 1st layer of stashed 22lr.

I'm looking for Fed bulk or other copper washed rounds. I'm having leading issues with Blazer (first time ever).

Compared to a month after the election of dipshit, prices have fallen dramatically. But they valleyed and are slightly rising for the last few months.
