Sure enough, in Basic, we had to name our rifles. I went with 'Athena', most of the lads didn't seem to figure it out. (Surprise, surprise.)

The other thing normally given names are vehicles. Cars, 'planes, boats...

I don't have a boat or 'plane, but my car is The Crumpmobile MkIV (AKA 'The Cosset'), and my tank was

What else is out there?

I used to think naming cars was somthing only chicks did and I resisted it, but lately my friends have been calling my Chevrolet R-30 Crew Cab 'Big Red'. I picked up a high milage white Nissan Sentra in trade for some work I did and it has a few dents so my daughters started calling it the 'marshmellow'.

I didn't really name it but....

The serial number on my AK47, when spelled out on a phone pad, dropping the non letter numbers, spells the name Irene. So I guess that is its name. I never refer to it as that.

My wife names the vehicles.

"Yonder" is a blue Ford Explorer.
"Verde" is a green Ford Ranger 4X4.
"Royce" was another vehicle she had before we were married.

My Rifle in the day (93) was "Lois"

It was for a girl that I met
the day before I left for basic.

At least she waited until I
graduated until she dumped me

I can smile now, 'cause I sure wasn't smileing then.

There is a special place in hell for girls/guys
that leave soldiers/marines/sailors/airmen in basic.

A buddy of mine calls his riot gun "Thunderstick", and my AR "Lightning Rod".

Personally, I think it's kind of weird to name a gun or a car.

Why do people name ships & boats?

Why did bomber crews of WW2 name their bombers?

I've never named any rifles but I'd like to have a 1958 Plymouth Fury name Christine. That would be cool.

Some of both, rifles and cars. Sometimes they get names and sometimes they just get titles. I have 10 cars, they have to have names, or titles, just to keep them straight, what parts go with what car, ect. Same with rifles(although, I have more than 10 rifles )

I named my car "PIECE OF SHIT!" when stuff started going wrong after 110,000 miles.

I had a Mini-14 once... it's name was "INACCURATE, JAMMING PIECE OF SHIT!"

When I bought my Garand it was wearing a very rough, abused stock. The whole thing looked like shit. So I started calling it "Ole Ugly." Put a new stock on it and it looks like a new rifle. I had to drop the name. It no longer has a name. This is the first gun I've ever named.

I just bought a Swiss K31 with a beech stock. Now what would you name a blonde Swiss girl? Heidi of course. This is the only rifle I own that has a name.

My 1985 Yamaha RZ350 is yellow and black. It's the Bumblebee. Only vehicle I've ever named and I didn't pick out the name for it. Everybody else did.

20 yrs ago one of my best friends had a light/baby blue 1964 Ford pickup. He named it Billy Bob.
