Base police at Earle NWS in NJ are using .357 wheelguns or at least they were last Sept. Only base police I've seen not using autos.

NY State Department of Corrections still uses some type of revolver last time I saw them transporting a prisoner (or maybe it was a personally owned gun). I rarely carry one, but would have no problem carrying the two revolvers you listed. That 357 has a lot going for it.

Nothing wrong with revolvers. I never felt under gunned with one but I felt under powered with the .38 Spl.+P. I would be happy with a S&W 686 7 shot with a .357 Mag. load. I can't complain about our .45's. They are excellent man stoppers.

S&W 460 for summer carry, Colt Police Positive for nightstand & .44mag for backpacking/hiking.

4" S@W .41 mag for winter off duty and hunting, (Caliber is not approved for on duty use)
It's not difficult to conceal at all, the problem is finding a good way to carry the speedloaders. My daughter's carry gun is a 3" model 65. She'd never give that thing up, and seeing how she shoots it I wouldn't try. |

My house guns a 4 inch Model 65, main carry piece is a 2 inch Model 60.

Still more than a few LEO's using the wheelgun by choice, especially in .357 mag and up. Lots of others who simply prefer the "load gun, point gun, pull trigger" operation of the revolver.
My S&W 340PD makes a nice backup to my CCW .45, as well as a great little "walkaround the block" gun. |

I have a 3" S&W Model 65 that sits in my nightstand at all times. It's an old Fort Worth Police Department gun which I picked up at a pawn shop for cheap. Shoots like a dream and I don't have to worry about it malfunctioning.

One of the local celebrities, a guy name John Tyson, is a sheriff deputy and brand inspector in a county near my home. He complained to me that nobody carries a revolver anymore either, then showed me his Smith wheelgun, .44 spl I think. Lots of old guys around here in the old west carry revolvers. Tyson is the only one I have seen carry one on official bidness. For me it's a 4" stainless Python .357mag or 4" 625 in .45acp. Note that I carry a glock daily for CCW, but sometimes I hump a wheelgun for shits and giggles.

Well, I don't have a CCW so when I'm "not carrying", it's a KelTec P32 [:D]. However, a pair of old M19 .357s - my 4" and my wife's 2.5" - are our house guns, car guns and camping guns. At no point do I feel undergunned. If not for my preference for packing ammo in just one caliber on camping trips, I'd probably just bump up to a 625 in .45 Colt.

well when i get my CCW i plan to carry a revolver
havent decided which one yet. but i like the fact thats its alot easy to use and less chance of something going wrong. |

My first real pistol was a Colt Trooper Mk IV.
It was incredibly accurate and had a smooooooth action. I would take it as a replacement for my BEretta 92C any day of the week. I kick myself regularly for selling that one. |

.357 is a good gun, but I've seen .38s bounce off of a windshield -- Dirty Harry
Quite true, in my experience. Love them Magnums! I'll bet just about any round would bounce off of a windshield though if it hit it at the proper angle. Windshields are tricky and unpredictable. Luckily it doesn't come up very often! Just to add: I saw some detective with a huge, stainless S&W 357 not too long ago. He was an older man though, probably had some seniority. |
