I grew up watching Star Trek: TNG, and remember thinking how blatantly old & outdated the original series seemed in comparison. It was 18 years from the time that TOS went off the air to when TNG had it's first episode.

It has now been 19 years since TNG went off the air. That is to say, one year LONGER ago than the time in between TOS and TNG.

Patrick Stewart has aged the best, oddly. He looks exactly the same.

Patrick Stewart looks black in the first photo. What'd he do?
Link Posted: 7/23/2013 9:47:55 AM EST
Patrick Stewart is a vampire. It's the only explanation.

TOS had cooler looking phasers though. Still some of the coolest looking futuristic weapons

Jonathan Frakes pitched the idea for a new series following the Titan after he leaves the E. For about the past year Michael Dorn has been getting support for a series: Captain Worf

I think it's a safe bet that the least successful one is worth a lot more than you or me.

I was like who the hell is the guy on the right? Forgot what he looked like without the makeup on. Would still bang Troi and Crusher.

Pfffffft, you want to feel old? I saw the original series when it was new.

I have been watching TNG on HuluPlus the last few weeks. It has aged very well. Especially Season 3 and onward. Still love "Yesterday's Enterprise" and have a new favorite, "The Measure of a Man."

The Original ST was breaking the molds dealing with race and social issues and expanding our perception of what our future might hold..... other ST's are just standing on shoulders.

One of the most amazing things about the ST shows movies etc. is that we look at a picture of a woman and think ... "guilty" or "not guilty" yet we see an alien on ST with green skin and scales on her face and think.......................

I'D HIT IT!!!!

When you hit max level, you stop leveling.

Sean Connery is the same way.

All the Star Treks are on Netflix.

Me: (to my kids) "When I was your age, there was only one Star Trek and it starred William Shatner."

My Daughter: (age 12) " What's Star Trek ?"

This thought made me feel old a few weeks ago:
In Back to the Future, Marty went back 30 years in the past from 1985 to 1955. In two years, it will have been 30 years since BTTF came out! Still love that movie BTW...
Link Posted: 7/23/2013 10:54:10 AM EST
Yup, feeling old, thanks OP...

Still watch TNG often.

I'm sipping water from my Star Trek cup, the NCC-1701 from the original series, as I read this and while I was always enamored of the technological advanced in TNG, I always felt like they were creepy with their "counselor" Troy.

I am old I remember the original Star Trek when it first aired. It was green lighted by Lucille Ball and produced at her studio.

That's because if it's good enough for Capt Kirk, it's good enough for GD.

That and the fact that the green alien babes were played by centerfold-level hotties.

I always thought that the idea that you need your therapist within arm's reach to effectively perform your job didn't say anything good about your qualifications to be captain of a ship.

Should have just been a telepath. Being able to be told the guy talking to you on the screen is lying would be useful, just not the touchy feely stuff.

Yeah, but I'm kind of like the SFDebris guy. If she's on my bridge, she better be working for a living besides occasionally telling me if someone's lying.

I liked all the Star Trek's. But I think Star Trek Voyager is my favorite.

The one with Patrick Stewart is a very close second.

Thanks! I remember when TNG was boldly copying where TOS had gone before new.

Yep. Not just a great idea, but incredibly damn-well executed.

All the new Star Treks suck ass....

Kirk kept it real.

Link Posted: 7/23/2013 1:25:40 PM EST
somewhere between fan film and professional quality lies a weird grey area. this belongs there -

http://vimeo.com/66784863

a continuation of the original trek with kirk, spock, etc. old style sets and all...

better than i thought it would be. not as good as i hoped.
