I have a 94 lx and I just need to know how the starting system works, ie: where all the wires go and what they connect too.

When you rotate the lock cyl it sends a low current
voltage through the neutral safety / clutch interlock switch
to the starter solenoid/relay . The low current energizes
a magnetic winding in the starter solenoid/relay to close the
high current circuit from the + battery cable and completes
the path through the commutator to the motor windings
which is grounded through it's case to the engine via it's
mounting bolts .

The low current wire on a ford is usually Red/Bl or Red/Gr
and connects to the S terminal on the solenoid or terminal
86 on the relay , depending on which system you have .
The pos battery cable can be red , blue or black .

The real trick of course is tracing the circuit down
the steering column and through the various joints and splices
in the wiring harnesses  on it's way to the solenoid/relay .
The high current circuit being the Pos battery cable is much easier .

Or you could spend the $10 for the manual with the wiring diagrams
And pictures of the circuits in question

I already have the chilton, hanyes, and factory manual

<----------- Cant you see I am in Iraq? My car is in Germany

I just need to where the + and - wires go from the battery. They are all getting replaced when I get back and I am quite bored over here.

- is the ground and the + goes to the starter

I can now

Depending on which starter it has , it will either have a remote solenoid mounted
near the battery . The + cable goes from the batt to the solenoid then
on to a single lug on the starter .

If it's the relay style , then the solenoid will be on the starter and the + cable
will run directly to the large lug on the starter . The "S" wire goes to the "S"
terminal on the solenoid no matter where it is .

I hated had an 87 Escort. I didn't think it was possible to hate a car as much as I hated that thing. I'll give it it's dues though..it was a tough little thing cause I beat on it.

Hahaha me too!  Mine was a 91 and I still hate that car.
