So after having low back pain for a while I got some X-rays and have an additional lumbar vertebrae. An L6.

Anyone have the same thing?

You probably don't have an "extra" vertebra. I'm guessing you only have 4 sacral vertebra, correct? If so, you've got a very common condition.

They said it's an L6 transitional segment

Yep. Caused some confusion with my back surgery 9yrs ago, stupid MFers had to do the discogram and CT scan with contrast twice because they shot the wrong fricken levels.

And guess what?  Going in for another spinal fusion and/or artificial disc replacement in a couple months.    I remind them about the L6/S1 thing every time now

Caused by incomplete fusion of the sacral vertabre.

Many years ago my dad had a lot of back problems.  During the xrays, exams, etc. the doctor told him he had an extra vertebra.  He was told it was an inherited condition.  Dad wanted all of us to be checked, too.  All three sons had the same thing.  I don't know that it hurts anything, it's just there.  My younger brother also had parts of a couple vertebra missing and most of two ribs missing on the left side.

No, it's actually an "extra" vertebrae. Like a full vertebral body.

Happens in about 4% of people. Usually not the cause of any issues.

I think my hip/back pain is mainly caused by the anterior pelvic tilt. I guess it's more of a physical therapy type of issue.

Do you think an ortho would be able to help me? I know surgery isn't possible or really necessary for this. Or would just doing physical therapy be the way to help?
