My daughter's laptop"s HD failed and she didn't make a set of recovery disks like she should have. Got a new HD but need the recovery disks you can make from the original HD. Need to get this fixed before she goes back to college.

I feel your pain. I am typing on one right now. I have replaced the Hard drive, motherboard (twice), and the ac jack once. It has been in the shop overall three months. I had to also get The disc for restoring, but my laptop will not make them no matter what. I had to call sony and order a set. It cost me I think about seven or nine dollars and I had them in two days. If my laptop cooperated I would gladly make you a set, but I have have not had any luck. Good Luck. DD

I assume you have another XP machine to work with other than the sony laptop?

If so I think this will help.

I used it successfully to make a windows boot CD, just be sure to follow the directions exactly and it should work for you as well.

ETA: Sony will tell you to give them $30 and they will send you a recovery CD.

Thanks I just ordered them from Sony, $30.94 2nd day air plus the $100 I spent on the HD but it should get her through her last year of college. If it goes TU its a good/fast HD I can use in a different laptop.

Ok, I have pcg k15 which is below but the same serie...My computer crashed a lot when i first got it, i got upset and send it to Sony under warranty. They replaced the HD for free and reinstall everything.
Anyhow, I believe you are out of warranty. My advice is to just reinstall Windows XP If you have the cd and just reinstall the driver for the mouse, wireless card and some other stuff. It can be found on their support website.
Do not buy their restoration CD's as it adds a lot of useless software programs into the computer.
