Word must be filtering out to people that come Monday, there could be a big increase in the cost of gasoline.

Just went out to run a few errands and gas up the Jeep ($2.49 a gallon).

Two stations near me are already closed (out of gas). A third that's near me is backed-up with cars waiting to fill their tanks.

It's not going to be a pretty picture if a number of the off shore oil rigs are severly damaged or if the
LA ports and off loading facilities are shut down.

I will be filling up on my way to work in an hour or so.
Link Posted: 8/28/2005 1:42:12 PM EDT
Yep

This is a PRIME example of why we need more refineries. They were already pegged at maximum capacity. Every little shutdown causes a ripple effect throughout the energy sector. This storm is going to bring everyone to their knees.

I had not heard anything about a big increase.................guess were gonna take it in the ass again!!!

I'm going out to eat and going to fill up later tonight.

My truck has a 27 gal fuel tank. It should last a little while.

All set, all cars and trucks full, 40 gal in cans and 200 gals in BBLs. I'm all set for a while. I expect a 30 to 50 cent increase in 2 or 3 days. [the BBLs are always full BTW I just siphon off and can it so it is always fresh. [add a bit of stabil]

How are you going to fit all of your Camden supplies in a Honda Element.

I just filled up not more then 10 minutes ago and it was $2.59 gallon for a total of $62.75

I think some CEO is looking to buy a 747-400 for a corporate jet

Here's my post from a similiar thread in the SF:

As always, thanks for looking

With Katrina bearing down on LOOP it doesn't take a rocket scientist to predict that gas prices will probably get much worse next week. I just filled all of my portable tanks (60 gallons) at a cost of $171.52, including the 7 gallons to top off my car on my last trip to the gas station.

Is anybody else doing this as a preemptive measure against higher prices next week? This brings my total amount of stored gasoline up to 96 gallons (I keep 36 gallons onhand for the generators).

I've got a little over half a tank. I said "F" it. What's the difference if I pay $3.00 per gallon this week or next week?

Filled the cars and the ATV cans.

Hedge yourselves boys.

KMG, APA, BTU, as well as a nice broad spectrum of utility stocks. I fear it is gonna get really ugly in the next couple of years. I hope I am wrong.

I also think MO is a good play. People won't stop smoking, and given Altria's play in the food industry, I don't think it is a bad way to go either.

I'll take any and all suggestions.

I filled up this evening. That said, I ride my bike now.

My thought is, will there be gas available?
Link Posted: 8/28/2005 6:50:59 PM EDT
No unusual action here. I plan to see how bad things look tomorrow AM on the news, and maybe pick up some additional gas. If things are pretty bad in LA, I may pick up more fuel oil - it's the cheapest time of year for it, and it always gets alot more expensive in winter.

My wife thought we should buy a couple of 5 gallon cans and fill them up just in case, but I don't think there are going to be any massive lines or shortages this far from the hurricane. Prices will probably go up some, but it's better to be able to buy gas for $3.00/gallon than to not be able to buy it for $2.50. The cost savings of buying now would be offset by the cost of the cans anyway.

I did fill up both my and my wife's cars, however. I'd rather not have to buy gas in the next week.

$60.02 in my 2000 Z71. In another 360 or so miles it will be another 23.5 gallons.
