I saw one a long time ago looked like a hope chest/ truck that opened and had spots for 3 rifles laid in it on a rack
and 2 big drawers for pistols and parts . Just wondering if anyone here ever built their own instead of that press wood garbage with deer etched on it etc .

Thats on the project list for this winter.  Built my wife a large hope chest 2 years ago.  It would work for guns but she stuffed it full of keepsakes and shit

Sir, FWIW I built a crate to store my guns when I was sent overseas.  I wanted the crate to be reasonably solid while not looking like what it was because it was going to be in my parents garage for the duration of my overseas assignment which turned out to be over four years the first time I did it.  I made the crate long enough to accomodate the longest rifle and added intercostal mount rails to keep the rifles from being stacked on top of each other.  I used RIG to coat each gun thoroughly inside and out to prevent rust and wrapped each gun in pieces of cotton sheets.  It worked great.  I found a few small spots of rust when I unpacked them but nothing significant.  I used white pine and lined the crate with heavy duty plastic sheets.  RIG works very well.  HTH, 7zero1.
