Potassium nitrate and sugar smoke bombs? Yes they work, lots of white smoke. We would melt them together on the stove and pour the pink goo into film cannisters and push hurricane matches into it as the fuse. The film cannister size would fill our back yard with smoke. A soda can? I bet that would fill at least half a soccer field.
Lot of hot flame, can't use them in the woods. This mix can also be used as model rocket fuel. |

Stir the stuff frequently. It doesn't take too much heat for the stuff to go up in the electric skillet/hot plate. Ask me how I know.
Prolly goes without saying, but you should make this stuff outside or in a shed where you don't have to worry about smoking up the place.
We used to use granulated stump remover. Its not 100% KNO3 but will get the job done. If you use this stuff, you may have to use a mortar and pestle to make the granules smaller. We always tried to make it the consistency of sugar. You can make wicks too. I used some burlap string dunked in nail polish then rolled in some gun powder. Seemed to work most of the time although these types of fuses are a bit fragile. Good luck. |
