I just got off the phone with Dish Network... I flat out cancelled my service, the guy I spoke to on the phone said I was the 10th customer he'd talked to today about the same thing. I'll keep my $85.00 a month, anyone else pissed that Dish Network can just make a channel disappear without notice?

ya im prob gonna cancel dish and go with direct unless they can figure  it out and soon. I lost fx, fssw, and natgeo. The sports channel is the most important plus im paying for channels that are lost.

I was more pissed about them dicking around with my bill every month and losing signal any time it rained or snowed.  Glad UVerse came and rescued my from my Comcast/Satellite hell.

FOX wanted to up their rates and guess who would foot the bill.

I also don't like the smear campaign put on by FOX.

I will stick with my DISH, fuck Direct.

And I have to have a dish of some type.  Hard to drag a cable all the way to Sebring every year.

And those who say their signal goes out every time it rains, well, your dish needs to be re-pointed.  My DISH goes out less than the local cable company.

Saw the commercial on FOX last night.  Sounds like local FOX feeds could even be lost, so that would be a complete dealbreaker.  I'd miss It's Always Sunny and Sons of Anarchy, but if they took all my FOX shows I'd be gone for sure.  (I'm on DirecTV, they've been good to me.  Just got a deal on adding Shotime so I can watch this season of Dexter and cancel it.)

I saw that too about the local FOX channel, but I don't see how they can do that since the local channels have their own seperate deal with the service providers.

I think it is a scare tactic and is underhanded as hell.

Add gobs of snow with sub zero temps, constant high winds (year round), lots of mountains surrounding you, and weather that is constantly changing from hour to hour and you will have these problems. All of my neighbors dumped their Dish and DTV when UVerse showed up a few years ago.

I just got the HD-DVR Dish put in yesterday. Channel 136 is supposed to be FX, which my parents still get, but 136 on my list is named something else, but they were playing some recent movies.  Wasn't watching it, just browsing the guide...

Yeah Dish is starting to piss me off. At least send out an email or something. This happened with another channel ABCFamily I think and I called because it was gone. They said they still had it but only if you have the non-HD package. I'm about at the tipping point of going to DirectTV.

We stay up in the rain, unless the equipment is damaged or moved... As does my personal satellite dish.

My service/all of my DVRs are HD now and we still get ABC Family.

Did it maybe get bumped to a higher service tier?  (We get "everything" FTR.)

Not sure I bought the HD only Platinum package because initially it covered everything I cared about. The channel might be back or you might get it because you get everything. I was told by customer service it was a contract thing and instead of charging more they dropped it from my package.

Agreed.  I was expecting the commercial to say, "Call your provider and complain!" like the did when they switched the Avalanche games to another network here in Colorado, and some providers didn't dime up for the feed.  This commercial seemed to reference a website that may do the same thing, but I forgot to write down the address.

Charlie does this stuff all the time. Everytime a network wants more $ he just drops the channel until something gives.

One of the many, many reasons I would never consider Dish network.

(Charlie Ergen is the CEO of Echostar/dish network).

I deal with all of them, ALL content providers suck in one way or another (Dish, Directv, Uverse, Cable).

Sticking with Directv until streaming content (Hulu, Netflix) is more fleshed out.

This kind of thing happens all the time with all the cable companies.

Here is the typical timeline of events:
ABC network or another notifies XYZ cable/satellite company that they are going to up their rates at the end of the current contract. ––->  XYZ cable/satellite copmany says they don't want to pay it. ––->  ABC network and XYZ cable/satellite company enter into rate negotiations.  ––->  End of contract begins to draw near, so ABC network begins running "Call your cable/satellite company and tell them not to drop our network," style commercials.  Customers begin calling XYZ cable/satellite company with their underwear in a bunch and parrot one-sided information.  ––->  ABC network and XYZ cable/satellite company end up in a pissing contest over contract negotiations.  ––->  Contract dispute is eventually resolved, which would have happened anyway without dragging customers into the fight.  ––->  Service to ABC network continues without interruption.

I've seen several dozens of these commercials that the network put on over the years.  IIRC, there was only one time that I've witnessed an actual loss of service to a network over something like this and it was less than a day in duration.

It's doubtful that anything will come of this latest dispute on the customers' end.

But then I have my dish away from the house mounted with a significant conctrete base, aimed correctly across an open field with zero obstructions year-round.  Great signal-strength.

Only time I ever had problems with my sat service ( i am on Dish) is when we had a really wet blizzard, and the snow totally caked to the sat dish.  I wacked it a few times with a broom handle to knock the snow off, and that fixed the problem.

http://www.dishnetwork.com/news/fox.aspx                 It is not Dish blocking the channels it is FOX!!!!!!
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - (NASDAQ: DISH) - Oct. 1, 2010 - DISH
Network L.L.C. reports today that FOX Networks is blocking DISH
Network's access   to 19 FOX Regional Sports Networks and other
programming
. FOX is demanding a new   contract with an unprecedented
rate increase of more than 50 percent. FOX's removal of the channels
follows   the programmer's national TV, print and web advertising
campaign designed to   intimidate DISH Network and its customers into
paying the rate increase. FOX has   flatly refused DISH Network's
request to allow customers to continue to watch   these FOX channels
during the negotiations.

These negotiations with FOX do not   affect local FOX TV stations, FOX News or FOX Business   News.

"DISH Network is not going to allow   FOX or any programmer to
bully our customers into paying such an unconscionable   price
increase," said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for
DISH   Network. "FOX has a long history of trying to shake down pay TV
providers,   including Cablevision, Time Warner, and Bright House."

Shull continued, "Our customers   should not be held hostage in
order to finance FOX's irresponsible acquisition   of sports rights.
Consumers are already burdened enough in this challenging   economy."

DISH Network will continue to   negotiate in good faith for a
fair deal with FOX to help restore the sports   programming and prevent
outrageous rate increases in this challenging economic   environment. In
the meantime, during the FOX lockout, DISH Network will make   the
following channels available to all affected customers at no additional
charge: HD Net Movies, HD Theater, NBA TV, New England Sports Network,
NFL   Network, NHL Network, Altitude Sports, Big Ten Network, Comcast
SportsNet   California, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Comcast SportsNet Bay
Area, Comcast   Sports Network Mid-Atlantic, Comcast Sports New
England, ESPN Classic, FOX   Sports Northwest, FOX Sports Pittsburgh,
FOX Sports Rocky Mountain, Mid-Atlantic   Sports Network, Mid-Atlantic
Sports Network2, SportsNet New York, and SportsTime   Ohio

NO.. I was at the end of my contract anyway. I don't see how they could hold you to a service agreement when they drop channels without notice. When I made the cancellation call they tried to toss me a "simmer down" coupon my way but I'd already had enough by then. I gave up dish 3 years back. after ten years of putting up with lost feeds due to wind, rain, snow, program drops from my original package w/o any adjustment to my bill other than an occasional free PPV movie ticket, and slow response for service calls.

The final straw was when a sub-contractor service guy for DISH came out stood around his truck, refused to haul his fat ass up a ladder to check the dish .And told me everything is fine nothing wrong with my system. Wanted me to sign off his RO so he could leave.  Sure I said and as soon as you leave I'll call customer service saying the problem has returned with a vengeance. And the technician was unable to diagnose and correct problem. Dude replaced my receiver box.

2 months later I switched to Direct Dish customer service got pissy and their manager said I'll come back "they always do"..Almost 3 years with zero issues and I'm still with  Direct.

I know that Direct fucked over this young kid next door to me.  Young and married with 2 kids and kind of naive.

He has no line of sight to the satellite during the summer, but when they came out to put up the dish, it was winter, so no leaves.  They shot the dish through the trees and had a signal.

He even questioned the installer about when the leaves would come in and was told it would be okay.

Leaves came in and ....................BANG!  No signal.  He called them about it and they wanted $400 to early disconnect and would not back off it.  He wound up paying it because they made all kinds of threats.

Before some apologist comes in and tells us about how bad installers contractors and nothing to do with the company, I will remind you that it was Direct themselves that refused to understand that he had no signal now and would not bend at all on the fee.

Dish has already come out and told both him and me that when the leaves came in there would be no signal.  This was the rental house I was in for almost a year before I bought my current house and I hounded the Dish TV guy to get me a signal. He showed some integrity (unlike the Direct installer) and flat told me that I would not be happy with it.

I made damn sure the house I bought had line of sight.

Anyway, he and I both called Direct, who wanted $90 as a down payment on new service.  They told both of us that they used different satellites than Dish.  I was skeptical of that statement (which I later found out was just another damned lie because they DO use the same satellites), but let them come anyway.  Well, my line of sight was non-existant even through the trees, but the kid next door let them put it up.

Well, like I said, they screwed the kid and I never could get my $90 back.

I will do without TV at all before I would ever buy service from Direct.

Besides, when I compare my service with those with Direct, I find the picture and quality of service to equal or better.

Now that the Braves regular season is over, I don't care at this time and there is nothing on FX that I watch anyway.  It has been replaced with some movie channel that is showing some decent movies.

I am surprised that we still have SPEED, since it is owned by FOX, but until the end of January, I don't care.  Won't be watching SPEED until then.

The BS about losing the local FOX affiliate is a fucking lie as that is a seperate deal with the local stations.

Besides, this seems to be strictly a Fox Sports issue as I still have FOXNEWS channel, so another reason that the "local FOX affiliate" crap is just more smoke.
